Artist Unwind: Study Reveals Surprising Insight into How Music Creators View Wellness

In Artist Unwind, we take a look at how artists relax, unwind and find balance. This week, we focus on the relationship between music creators and wellness.

Recently ASCAP (American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers) released the findings from a wellness survey that took an extensive look at both music creators and the general population when it comes to relationships with wellness. The US Music Creator Wellness Study found some surprising insights:

Compared with the general population, music creators are:

• 2–3x more likely to feel alone, disappointed and ignored
• 83% more likely than the general population to say meditating or practicing mindfulness is very important to them
• 55% more likely to say therapy or coaching for self-improvement is very important to them
• 31% more likely than the general population to say that exercising is very important to them
• 42% more likely to say feeling connected to others is very important to them

The study also found that “Music Creators are significantly more likely than the General Population to say that their personal Health and Wellness has a major impact on their careers (84% vs. 64%).” To better serve the health and wellness needs of its members, ASCAP is launching a new wellness program that will focus on members’ physical and mental well-being.
