We chatted with Lozina who shared the inspiration behind her successful spa brand, signature treatments, beauty secrets, and much more.
When was Blue Water Spa founded and what does the name mean?
Blue Water Spa opened its doors in 2008 right when the whole financial world was in crisis. Scary times but we persevered!
I sought a name that left you with a feeling. I wanted people to read “Blue Water Spa” and suddenly feel something like relaxation or an “Ohhh.” Rather than my name or “Sagamore Spa,” which was in contention, I felt like that didn’t impart an emotion.
What inspired the creation of the brand?
I was inspired to create my own spa because the medical spa I was working at was focused on medical treatments: lasers and peels, etc, and I felt that the skin needed more love than burn and peel. I also worked at a beautiful spa and it was the exact opposite—it was all oil and massage, and I wanted to build a bridge between the two and create results-oriented skin treatments that were relaxing and results-driven.
How many locations do you have and where?
BWS has been growing strong in Oyster Bay for the past 15 years. The new Southampton location is in the process of opening its doors in September. After that, we will expand to more locations.
Do you offer a signature treatment?
It’s hard to say that I have a signature treatment because everything is customized based on each individual’s skin the moment. However, my treatments usually include a variation of massage, enzymes, AHAs microcurrent, infusions of hyaluronic acidic, ultrasound, LED ice globes, and so much more or less, depending on what each person’s skin needs are.
What’s your favorite treatment?
I love using microcurrent because I love the transformation that clients get with the sculpting and lifting treatment. And my clients love it, too. It’s a real red carpet treatment.
What’s your most popular treatment?
We do a large volume of facials, around 300 per month. Our most popular is the Lactic Glow Facial, which is a vitamin C-infused lactic acid hydrating facial that ends with LED light therapy. It really makes the skin glow.
What products do you use and retail at your spa?
I’m an ambassador for the Environ Brand so that’s my #1 go-to brand. I also use an indie brand called Roccoco, plus Biologique Recherche, Valmont, and iS Clinical (I love their vitamin C).
Future plans for the brand?
My future plans include opening more locations around the country and abroad, creating my own skincare brand, and educating the next generation of estheticians.
Who inspires you?
Literally any woman who is in a position of power; Dolly Parton, Sheryl Sandburg, and Coco Chanel to name a few. I love women that are breaking the mold and inspiring the next generation of women to lead.
Secret to success?
Lead with love: you can’t go wrong if you do everything from the heart. Connect with clients, genuinely help them with their concerns, talk about big ideas and what’s next for them. As women, we are constantly evolving—let’s talk about it and speak our dreams.
Beauty secrets?
Keep your face out of the sun. Your face is your money shot. Keeping it brown spot-free is the easiest way to look decades better than all your friends. Reapply sunscreen and wear a hat. And don’t worry about how the hat makes you look, look at the bigger picture!
Wellness tips?
Love yourself. Truly try to love yourself every day. Forgive yourself, be kind to yourself. Meditate. I could rattle off the benefits of juicing and yoga, but the core of all the wellness in the world is self-love. Tell yourself you love yourself every day and just watch the changes.
Best advice?
Start good skin care in your 20s with vitamins A, C and E.
Go easy on the injectables.
Avoid anti-aging lasers while you’re young—they work much better in your 40s and 50s.
Stop seeking the perfect texture and complexion, it doesn’t exist.
And lastly, find a good trustworthy esthetician and listen to their advice. Only take skincare advice from licensed professionals, especially one that knows and understands your specific skin type.
Favorite way to relax?
I take a magnesium bath every day. It’s my happy place.
