Our latest Beauty Boss is Sophia Moradi, Founder of SŌM Skin—an innovative new skincare line powered by exosomes, which are bioactive particles that occur naturally within the body’s cells. These powerful ingredients carry the potential to transform skin by delivering targeted cell-to-cell communication.

After years of working in health care and aesthetics, including working at Avalon Surgery Center since 2015 (which her mother Silva is CEO of) Moradi discovered the power of exosomes in regenerative skincare. Moradi’s upbringing and medical background provided her with first-hand knowledge of exosomes as an emerging ingredient and what it would take to create a product infused with them to the market.

The dermatologist-tested and cruelty-free line recently debuted its first product, Rejuvenate & Fill Microneedle Patches, which are exosome-infused patches crafted with microneedling technology for targeted rejuvenation under the eyes. SŌM Skin products are scientifically formulated with skin health in mind, and each product undergoes extensive testing in order to ensure it meets the brand’s quality and efficacy standards.

Prior to launching her company, Moradi also founded ‘WHO YOU KNOW,’ a dynamic networking group for professionals within the community, inspired by her commitment to fostering connections and collaboration even beyond the realm of skincare. We chatted with Moradi who shared her favorite wellness tips, secrets for success, best advice, and much more.

When was SŌM Skin founded and what does the name mean?

SŌM Skin was officially founded in December 2022. Some people think it's a play on my name, but in reality the name is derived from our star ingredient, exosomes.

What inspired the creation of the brand?

The brand has lived in my mom's brain for some time now. As we explored the possibility of starting the line over the past decade, new and different ideas brewed. Over the past year and a half actively working on the brand, we drew inspiration from every corner: our travels, our lives here in Los Angeles, and our Armenian culture. The true inspiration of the brand is the star ingredient: exosomes. They are versatile, powerful, and effective; all core values of our brand.

SŌM Skin’s debut product is its Rejuvenate and Fill Microneedle Patches, which are infused with exosomes to deliver targeted nourishment and revitalization deep within skin.

Does SŌM Skin have a hero product?

I have a feeling our hero product launched this summer!

What are your favorite products from the brand?

While we have only one product released at the moment (our Rejuvenate & Fill Microneedle Patches), the two launching later this year are both so good, I can't possibly pick a favorite!

Where are your products sold?

Our products are sold online on our website. They will be available in select physician practices in the near future. New retailers will be updated on our website so stay tuned.

Future plans for the brand?

We will be releasing more exosome products, and our focus will be developing excellent products for the foreseeable future.

Who inspires you?

My mom! I wouldn't be anywhere near where I am today without her guidance, support, and impossible standards.

Secret to success?

Resilience. Working through challenges and adversities and remaining focused on the end goal. It is so easy to get discouraged, especially when running your own business. I personally have become numb to failure because I strongly believe everything happens for a reason and success occurs when it's meant to.

Beauty secrets?

I truly believe that beauty is more inside out than outside in. Ensuring you have a healthy diet, get exercise, and prioritize the things that make you feel good. Self-care is everything and that does not have to look the same for everyone.

Wellness tips?

Listen to your body. Do what feels good and prioritize that.

Best advice?

Don't fixate on what anyone else is doing. A diet that works for someone won't always work for you. An exercise regimen that works for someone won't always work for you. Some people do well when they wake up at 4 a.m. and work out before work, others could really use the extra couple hours of rest. There is no secret formula to success; being intuitive and focusing on your own path will prove to be the best approach.

Favorite way to relax?

This is challenging for me because I'm very Type A. A quiet Saturday catching up on emails and sipping coffee can be equally relaxing to me as reading a book or going for a walk.
