When was Toska Spa founded and what inspired its creation?
I founded Toska Spa in 2010. After moving from London to the U.S., I realized that there was a lack of European, results-driven skincare clinics that focused on a holistic approach. At the time, the idea of skincare was mainly doctors and med spas, or what I call “fluffy facials,” meaning they were focused on relaxation rather than results, and nothing in between. I wanted a spa where clients would leave looking better than when they came in, minus the downtime. This inspired me to start Toska Spa.
Tell us about your journey in the industry.
Growing up in Europe, I was surrounded by strong women who took a lot of pride in the way they looked. I was curious about beauty and the connection between how well someone presented themselves and their confidence levels. This led me to pursue a qualification at Steiner School of Beauty Therapy in London, which at the time was considered the gold standard in the beauty industry. This set the foundation for what I want my spa to be.
What services do you offer?
With a focus on education over influence, our specialized menu of curated skincare products and services provides our clients with unrivaled treatments using the latest technologies and techniques, combined with our proven methods for unequivocal results. We do everything from full facials to 30-minute mini-facials, and consult with clients about which products and services they should be getting.
Do you have a specialty?
We specialize in corrective treatments such as those for acne, hyperpigmentation, rosacea, as well as anti-aging. Personally, my specialty is pre-event facials, where I get the client ready for a big day such as red carpet premieres, weddings, etc.
Do you offer a signature treatment?
The Epic Facial! This 5-star treatment was born in Los Angeles, before the Oscars, when I wanted the client to look their absolute best! After about two hours of pouring all my expertise and knowledge into that one treatment, the results were epic, hence the name.
Tell us about your new partnership with 111SKIN.
We work with a limited range of skincare brands and are extremely selective when it comes to adding a new line to our offerings. I was fortunate to have the opportunity to try many of 111SKIN’s products. After about a year of testing and trying them on myself, friends, and family to get an idea of how they affected a wide range of skin types and concerns, I decided that 111SKIN complemented our current products, but also brought new and exciting formulas to the spa. Since its launch, we’ve had great success and our clients love it.
What inspires you?
Results! I love seeing clients who fall in love with their healthy skin and feel happy and confident, especially when they have been through skin challenges such as severe acne, hyperpigmentation, and more. I also appreciate the opportunity I have to create jobs for those in the beauty industry.
Secret to success?
Never stop learning because knowledge is power! When a client trusts you with their face, it’s extremely important to treat their skin with the most utmost care and respect. Having knowledge will give you the confidence and expertise to perform a service that delivers results and will ensure the success of your business.
Beauty secrets?
Tailor your skincare routine to your personal needs with the help of a professional. Just because your favorite influencer or friend says a product is great, it doesn’t mean it’ll be good for your skin.
Wellness tips?
My main tip is to focus on your diet, as your skin’s health is tied to your overall well-being. One of the most important things you can do for your skin through your diet is keeping hydrated. This isn’t just about drinking a certain amount of water each day, but also incorporating fruits and vegetables into your diet for slower-releasing water that will help your skin maintain optimal hydration for longer.
Best advice?
Get outside in nature, get that natural Vitamin D from the sun, wear (and re-apply) your sunscreen, and enjoy life.
How do you like to relax?
By spending time with my dog, Leila, whether that’s walking her at the park or playing with her favorite pink ball.
