We chatted with the duo who shared the inspiration behind the innovative wellness space, favorite beauty and wellness tips, favorite ways to relax, and much more.
When was Sage + Sound founded and what does the name mean?
Sage + Sound opened its doors in Fall 2022. We are a wellness destination on the Upper East Side offering curated programming, products, and self-care services in a revitalizing and approachable atmosphere. It’s a place where you can experience “wellness” in any way you want—be it burning a sage stick or taking a Sound Experience. We meet you wherever you are on your journey.
What inspired the creation of the brand?
Drawing from our own personal encounters with trauma, grief, addiction, and health challenges, we have deliberately crafted Sage + Sound to eschew a one-size-fits-all approach. Our vision is to empower our guests to forge their personalized paths to healing and self-discovery.
How many locations do you have?
We currently are proudly on the Upper East side of Manhattan—and of course, have high hopes of expanding. You’ll have to wait and see about the details of that!
What services do you offer?
We offer a best-in-class wellness retail shop; treatments like acupuncture, energy healing, facials, and massages; and classes in The Study focused on breathwork, meditation, astrology, tarot, and sound experiences. We’re also proudly partnered with Sundays Nail Salon to offer you non-toxic, meditative manicures and pedicures, amazing food (thanks to our partner Isle of Us), and lymphatic drainage via our friends at IMD Spa.
Do you offer a signature service?
We’re proud to have become known for many things—it’s hard to choose. Our signature Bespoke Facial is hands down the best offering in the city and totally tailored to your skin needs and desires.
What’s your favorite offering on the menu?
Lacey: Our Bespoke Facial.
Lauren: Thai massage followed by cupping.
What product lines do you retail?
We work hard to curate brands we love that you won’t find everywhere else. We have tried and true favorites like Biologique Recherche, Augustinus Bader, and Environ, but we also invest a lot of time finding new, exciting brands in all areas. We love Walden for Home, Koshi Chimes, Alice Chocolates, and Iles Formulas. We incorporate many of our retail products throughout the space in treatments, services, and classes in The Study.
Future plans for the brand?
We have to keep you surprised! Just know we’re constantly introducing new products to our retail and new classes in The Study.
Who inspires you?
Knowing that we’re helping people—in big ways and small—find peace; a grain of wellness to add to their day, week or year.
Secret to success?
That there is no secret! Hard work and passion win out.
Beauty secrets?
Lacey: The Sage + Sound Bespoke Facial. Oops! Now it’s not a secret!
Lauren: Since opening, I’ve become a body oil connoisseur! My go-to is Uma.
Wellness tips?
Lacey: Strike a balance and allow yourself the freedom to discover what resonates with you personally. Wellness is not one-size-fits-all.
Lauren: Don’t forget, you’re allowed to have fun! “The work” doesn’t always have to be hard (although, sometimes, it will be hard.) Find a practice that makes you feel lighter, elevated, and more grounded.
Favorite way to relax?
Lacey: I’m an expert when it comes to a great bath. A little bit of Esker Magnesium Spray, some Oui the People Soak…I also love playing video games and doing puzzles.
Lauren: Great music, a fantastic candle (I love the Soh Melbourne ones that we sell), and a Yoga Nidra class.
