Beauty Guru Laura Grigoryan Talks Beauty Industry Trends, Opening a Business During COVID-19, and More
Starting a business is challenging enough, let alone during a global pandemic, but Laura Grigoryan didn’t allow that to stop her.
Last spring, the renowned beauty guru and master injector took a leap of faith and opened Fix Me Up LA in Burbank, California. The medical spa and salon specializes in high-end aesthetic, cosmetic, and beauty treatments that are also affordable. Grigoryan and her team of experts offer a wide range of services that include everything from injectables and lasers to facials and micro blading, and more—while also following CDC guidelines and state restrictions to ensure a safe and successful visit for all of her clients.
Everything You Need to Know About the Fox Eye Procedure
“I have been injecting for two years and have a bachelor's degree in biology and psychology from UCSD, a bachelor's in nursing, a master's in nursing, and am now a nurse practitioner,” says Grigoryan. “Although I never studied business, it has always been a natural instinct of mine. The first company I started was called FlipBook Frenzy in 2013, which is a photo booth company used by all the Hollywood elite for their over the top events. FlipBook Frenzy was even featured on an episode of “Rob and Chyna” on E!”
We interviewed Grigoryan, who shared the inspiration behind Fix Me Up LA, her signature and favorite treatments, current beauty industry trends, and more.
When did you open Fix Me Up and where is it located?
Fix Me Up LA officially opened on May 16, 2020 and we are located at 2407 W. Burbank Blvd. in Burbank, California.
What inspired its creation, especially during a pandemic?
Fix Me Up LA was created from an idea that I had in my head four years ago at a restaurant. I thought it would be very cool to have a medical spa and right then and there, I thought of the name Fix Me Up LA and bought the domain. Four years later, I graduated from nursing school and started working in Beverly Hills then realized very quickly that I needed to turn Fix Me Up LA into a reality so I quit my current job the same day! The company was already a year in the making when COVID-19 hit—we had no choice but to power through and I’m so glad that we did!
What services do you offer at your clinic?
We offer a wide array of services including: injectables, lasers/IPL/Morpheus, PRP, micro needling, body sculpting, facials, nails, hair, tanning, micro blading, brow lamination and threading, and teeth whitening.
How has COVID-19 impacted your business?
First and foremost, we prioritize the safety of our staff and patients. We take COVID-19 very seriously and abide by all CDC and state guidelines. In terms of impact, the pandemic has definitely affected our exposure. The amount of patients that we would have had when we opened was affected due to COVID-19 and people being cautious about going anywhere at the time. We weren't able to have a grand opening party, which was tough for us because we had a lot of fun ideas and surprises in mind. We can only imagine what it would be like if COVID-19 didn’t exist and where we would be right now. Most of our patients come from personal relationships and Instagram.
Do you have a specialty?
We specialize in injectables, full facial balancing-liquid rhinoplasty, and our signature 'Lip Fix' that I created.
What’s your favorite treatment that you offer?
I love fillers in general. It really allows me to contour the face, eliminate the unwanted shadows, and highlight the features. The non-surgical rhinoplasty, 'The Nose Fix,' is one that has made me emotional because of my patients' reactions looking at their before and after pictures.
Do you use or sell any product lines in your med spa?
We retail our own aesthetician’s skin care line called Legacy, which we also use in all our facial treatments.
Current industry trends?
The 'Russian Lip Technique' has been a trend lately. People ask a lot about this technique. I love some aspects of this technique, but I have actually created my very own technique, which is becoming the new trend.
Future plans for your business?
I have started the Fix Me Up Academy where RN, NP, PA, DDS, and MDs can take our course to get certified in injections or start their career in aesthetics. We also put together the FMU New Grad Program for the graduated nursing students who have never injected and don’t have experience. The aesthetic industry does not hire anyone without experience, so this program allows those students to do 60 hours of one-on-one shadowing with me. Our future goal is to brand Fix Me Up throughout the world.
