#BeautyBoss: Allie Egan, Founder and CEO of Veracity
Our latest #BeautyBoss is Allie Egan, Founder and CEO of Veracity—a line of wellness products that offer a detailed and thorough approach to personalized skin care based on one’s hormones. Their at-home saliva test helps consumers understand the underlying root causes of their skin symptoms, which is followed with a custom wellness routine that includes diet and lifestyle advice along with clean skincare and supplement recommendations from Veracity that are tailored according to each person’s hormones.
After spending years trying to figure out what was causing her skin issues, Egan discovered she had an underactive thyroid through fertility testing, which ultimately led her to leave her role as the CEO of a renowned fashion brand to start her own skincare and wellness company that would educate others about hormone health and improve their skin at the same time.
To help support inclusive research related to hormone health education and changing the narrative around what it means to be hormonal, Veracity donates a portion of proceeds from the sale of every Skin + Health Test to independent womens’ hormonal health research projects. The company also gives 10% of its merchandise sales to organizations like the Black Women’s Health Imperative for the equal treatment of women of color in the healthcare system and Razom, which provides emergency medical supplies to Ukraine.
We chatted with Egan, who shared the inspiration behind the brand, secrets for success, wellness tips, and much more.
What inspired the creation of Veracity?
I spent years frustrated with eczema-like dry skin on my face. I tried countless treatments and saw a dermatologist but nothing seemed to work, so it became something I tolerated and lived with. It wasn't until years later when my husband and I were suffering through a long infertility battle that my hormones were finally tested and I was diagnosed with an underactive thyroid issue called Hashimoto's disease. I learned that the dry skin on my face is a common symptom of Hashimoto’s—if only I’d had the tools to understand and address my hormone imbalances earlier, I could have avoided a lot of heartbreak and difficulty in my journey.
The connection between our skin’s health and appearance and our internal health became so clear to me, and I felt that this holistic conversation connecting health and beauty just wasn’t happening often enough. That’s why I left my CEO position at Cynthia Rowley, a dream job, to start Veracity—I wanted to give women the tools and knowledge I didn’t have, so they could uncover the root causes of their skin and wellness concerns.
Does Veracity have a hero product?
Our at-home test reveals the hormone levels that drive your skin and health concerns including acne, wrinkles, energy, libido, sleep and more. This is undoubtedly our signature product since it really gives the full picture of why you’re dealing with the issues you are. You receive your personal hormone wellness report and medically verified recommendations based on the saliva sample you send in to really get your body and skin back in balance.
In our skincare range, our Blemish Calming Cleanser is the best seller—honestly, it keeps selling out! It’s the first hormone-safe, breakout-fighting cleanser made with powerful actives like sulfur, zinc and boswellic acid, but it’s still hydrating and doesn’t disrupt your skin barrier.
What’s your favorite product from the line?
It’s hard to choose, but I’m currently relishing the moment in the day that I apply the BioEvolve Serum. It contains biomimetic copper peptides and adaptogenic snow mushroom to energize and protect the skin. It’s like an instant pick-me-up for my skin.
Where are your products sold?
Our full range of products is available on our website, and we also partner with Saks, Onda, and The Well.
Future plans for the brand?
We want to guide women on the path to hormonal balance. Hormones drive all body systems, from skin health to fertility, mental health, stress and everything in between, so if we are all more aware of our hormonal health, we have the keys to addressing the root causes of how we feel and look.
In the future, I want to double down on this mission through different touch points with women. That includes more content on our site’s The Knowledge, as a resource and space for women to learn and connect over all things hormones, health and lifestyle; partnering with like-minded people to spread the word even further, and new products to help women achieve hormone balance, like the supplements we launched in September last year. And the most exciting part: using our data to give more women answers to their hormonal questions!
Who inspires you?
This is always evolving for me, but right now being a CEO of a company and mom of two, women who are able to find balance in both is super inspiring to me and I work hard each day to hopefully achieve that. I hope to look back on this time and not feel like I’ve missed out and for my kids to be inspired by me, too.
Secret to success?
Give a sh*t. The people that care are the ones that succeed.
Beauty secrets?
Implement lymphatic drainage massage while applying your skincare products. You can do this by applying outward from your forehead and downward on your cheeks while breathing with longer exhales than inhales. This helps with puffiness, congestion, and lifts and tightens skin—it’s also really great for your hormones!
Wellness tips?
Go to bed and wake up at the same time every day—even on the weekends. Having a consistent sleep schedule helps to reinforce your circadian rhythm (your body’s internal clock that helps manage your body’s systems) and promote productivity and long-lasting energy.
Best advice?
Be gentle on yourself. Nobody is perfect or has all the right answers—everyone is doing the best they can. When you realize this, it’s the biggest confidence booster of all time.
How do you like to relax?
I relish in my alone time, which is few and far between these days. I wake up at 5 a.m. and run most days and oddly enough that is super relaxing. That and reading my son his bedtime stories.
