Beauty Boss: Lauren Gannes, Founder of HIGHBORN
Our latest Beauty Boss is Lauren Gannes, founder and formulator of HIGHBORN—an aromatics company that recently launched new body oils available in three rituals, both with and without full-spectrum CBD. When it comes to CBD, the company sources their lab-tested, full-spectrum cannabidiol strictly from certified organic and ethically farmed cannabis plants. Each distinctive fragrance profile features organic, sustainably sourced and extracted essential oils, reiki-charged crystals and high vibes to deepen your self-love regimen and help you discover your moment of bliss.
The child of a meditation-practicing mom and a radiologist dad, Gannes witnessed firsthand both pathways to "wellness" and saw how they could deeply co-exist. As a result, she developed a deep understanding of integrative health and the benefits of balance. We chatted with Gannes to learn more about what inspired her unique brand, favorite beauty and wellness tips, self-care rituals, and more.
When was HIGHBORN founded? What does the name mean?
HIGHBORN means to be born into a regal birthright, and I felt that by creating products with energy intention we would be instilling that sense of self-love and reverence in our community. I founded it almost seven years ago as a creative platform from where I would launch different high-frequency products. Our aromatics company launched in 2018 and it has by far been the most enjoyable endeavor.
What inspired the creation of the brand?
The strong desire to deepen moments around self-care and ritual.
Does HIGHBORN have a hero product?
Défumé was our first scent creation and continues to please, but I would say that Salome and Moon Saber are finding their cult followings as well.
What are your favorite products from the brand?
I am not one to play favorites, but our newest body oils are insanely decadent and wearable. I'm into it!
Where are your products sold?
Nordstrom, SpaceNK, and a number of other amazing retailers. For best access to our full line, visit us online.
Future plans for the brand?
More amazing products are in formulation that continue the celebration of HIGHBORN lifestyle. Future retail partnerships and special collabs are also underway.
Who inspires you?
My daughter and husband inspire me deeply—together we are unstoppable. I'm also inspired by living actionably. We aren't small; one person can positively influence the world.
Secret to success?
Work, work, work and drink your own Kool-Aid. If you don't make the move, someone else will.
Beauty secrets?
I tend to leave my blemishes alone. As tempting as it is, they go away on their own and without a scar. It’s never worth the pick! I'm also a fan of lots of water and happiness consumption—the two work well.
Wellness tips?
I try to get to a workout class once a week. For me, if it isn't guided by a teacher I tend to enjoy it less. I am also a fan of family time, CBD, baths and meditation. Anything that promotes presence and the “slow down.”
Best advice?
Trust to your deepest core that you are enough and deeply deserving. The rest will align. I spent years seeking outward fulfillment—after journeying with no sustainable joy in my life, I finally started to do the “work” and discovered my capacity for inner strength was deeper than I could have imagined. I also highly recommend auditing your self-care around boundaries. So many times we see boundaries as rejecting, when in reality, they are expansive and very much a part of self-love and care.
Favorite ways to relax?
For me, it’s all about bath time. I love hot baths, good products and candle light—it's a perfect bliss moment. Oh, and I usually ditch the device.
