#BeautyBoss: Suzanne LeRoux, Founder and President of One Love Organics
This week’s #BeautyBoss is Suzanne LeRoux, Founder and President of One Love Organics—an ECOCERT certified natural and organic skincare line made in small batches on St. Simons Island in Georgia. An award-winning natural and organic cosmetic formulator with more than 10 years of industry experience, LeRoux previously worked as a lawyer until she decided to follow her passion for aromatherapy.
All of her products are made in a high-tech lab with premium, plant-based ingredients and innovative skincare science to deliver a healthy glow to skin. The small-batch method ensures superior freshness and quality for truly transformative results. The ECOCERT-licensed manufacturing facility is one of a select few in the United States, undergoing rigorous evaluation to ensure that it meets the highest-quality, certified-organic, and environmentally friendly standards.
Fans of the brand can also visit One Love Organics Spa, a cozy retreat that opened in 2018 on St. Simons Island just an hour south of Savannah by car. The spa offers a range of treatments that incorporate products from the brand, and has a One Love Organics boutique so that guests can stock up on skincare essentials after being pampered.
Spa Profile: One Love Organics Spa
We chatted with LeRoux, who shares the inspiration behind the brand, favorite wellness and beauty tips, best advice, and more.
When was One Love Organics founded and what does the name mean?
It was founded in 2010. The name serves as a daily reminder that we are all inextricably connected to one another. Because of that connection, we have a responsibility to help make this world a better, happier place.
What inspired the creation of the brand?
I sought out and ultimately created a green beauty company out of my own vanity and skin health! I just wanted smooth, radiant skin and I wasn’t obtaining it—even though I had been a lifelong beauty junkie. On top of that, my favorite pastime of beauty shopping wasn’t fun anymore once I began learning about some of the ingredients I was putting on my skin.
Once I made the switch to natural and organic skincare products, I finally achieved glowing skin. Not only have I not worn foundation for 15 years, but beauty shopping is also more fun now than ever! While environmental sustainability and kindness to animals is undoubtedly the right thing to do, the purpose of green beauty for me is to feel great in my skin and have a blast shopping for beauty products that I can trust.
Does One Love Organics have a hero product?
Yes, our Botanical B Cleansing Oil is beloved by customers and beauty editors alike because its gentle yet effective formula works and smells great. If you aren't happy with your current cleanser or want to try something from One Love Organics, this is the product to start with, then add our latest launch Botanical A Facial Cleanser for the perfect double-cleansing routine.
What are your favorite products from the brand?
My personal favorite is the Botanical E Eye Balm. Its thick, waterless formula covers the entire eye area in a soft, cushiony cocoon that gradually absorbs into the skin. It’s more like a mask than a traditional eye product and it just feels so protective. I have been using it for almost 10 years and it has saved me from premature fine lines and wrinkles.
Where are your products sold?
On our website, as well as Blue Mercury, Neiman Marcus, The Detox Market, Follain, Credo, Dermstore, and Riley Rose.
Who inspires you?
My husband Chase. He encouraged me to take the leap from practicing law to doing what I love—creating effective natural and organic skincare products. I’m not sure I would have had the courage to make the leap from beauty shopper to beauty brand owner and manufacturer without his help, advice and positive encouragement! He also left his law firm to serve as our CFO almost seven years ago, and his help has been invaluable to me and the company.
Secret to success?
The old adage is true: do what you love and you really never work a day! Being in the beauty business takes a lot of hard work and determination, but I love it so researching something in the evening or weekends is not a chore. I’m truly interested to find out so I want to do it. When I was practicing law, I felt overworked when I needed to do additional tasks on the weekends or in the evening.
Beauty secrets?
Double-cleansing changed my skin forever. It' involves just what it sounds like—washing your face twice! The first time with an oil-based cleanser like our Botanical B Cleansing Oil to remove oil and makeup, and the second time with a mild foaming cleanser like our new Botanical A Facial Cleanser to further purify the skin.
Wellness tips?
Prioritizing sleep! A luxurious night of deep sleep is everything for my mood and productivity. It's so important that I came up with a list of my top sleep tips to share with my friends, family, and employees and customers:
Choose a low sugar, low glycemic diet.
Keep your room a cool 67-69 degrees at night.
Use a sleep mask to block out light and to help your body produce melatonin, a hormone that regulates your sleep cycle.
Use a fan or white noise machine to block out offensive noises and soothe you to sleep.
Enjoy a warm magnesium drink or take a magnesium supplement in the evenings.
Best advice?
A happy woman is a beautiful woman. Take time each day to focus on a few things that help make you feel good and happy. For me, it’s listening to my favorite music, sipping iced tea, walking my dog, and listening to my children talk about their day and perspectives.
How do you like to relax?
I love to go on a spa retreat whenever possible—for the day or for a week. It's my favorite escape and inevitably leads to some great new product ideas as well, so it's a win-win for my work life balance.
