Our latest Beauty Boss is Tess Fox, Chief Operations Officer of FREEDOM Naturals—a woman-owned line of natural skin care products that are carefully formulated, blending the earth’s best ingredients for effective results. The company was founded by Fox’s grandmother, who after struggling to find post-procedure skin care relief, decided to create a solution by making her own line of products. The line features a range of skin-nurturing products, including eczema and psoriasis treatments, detoxifying charcoal masks, and more.
In addition to being affordable, all FREEDOM Naturals products are cruelty-free, and do not contain any harmful ingredients or toxins, such as parabens, added fragrance, sulfates, cortisone, and steroids. Every purchase helps support female empowerment around the world. We recently chatted with Fox, who talked inspiration, beauty, success, and more:
What inspired the creation of FREEDOM Naturals?
FREEDOM Naturals was created to offer natural skincare products that not only work but are free from harmful ingredients. Owned by a 27-year-old skin care company that my grandmother founded, we decided to launch FREEDOM Naturals as a bold and disruptive brand in the cosmetic skincare industry. FREEDOM Naturals offers specific skin care needs and everyday beauty essentials designed for all skin types. We are proudly woman-owned and cruelty-free.
How long has the brand been around?
FREEDOM Naturals was founded in 2017 and is owned by a 27-year-old skin care company.
Tell us more about the line. Is there a hero product?
Our first collection of products, launched in 2017, are made specifically for skin conditions like eczema and psoriasis. Maximum-strength healing botanicals and organic aloe vera help improve specific skin care needs, without harmful ingredients like steroids, cortisone, or parabens. Our Beauty Essentials collection, which launched in January 2019, includes everyday routine products for healthier-looking skin. Smooth, detox, moisturize, brighten, and prep your skin for a flawless-looking face.
What’s your favorite product from the line?
My absolute favorite product from the line is our Flawless Skin Primer, which recently launched and is already an obsession. It helps create the perfect canvas, minimizing my oily T-zone and allowing for smoother application of foundation. This clear gel formula is also lightweight and leaves skin silky soft.

Who inspires you?
My grandmother, Gloria Vanderlaan, inspires me every day. She alone created our parent company, TriDerma MD in 1992, and is still a part of the daily operations for both brands to this day. She is passionate about our customers and maintaining quality products—a true inspiration to everyone in the company. We continue to learn from her and are in awe of this amazing opportunity she created.
Secret to success?
I believe that when you are passionate about your career and also able to enjoy life outside of work, you have the tools for a successful environment. In our industry, it’s the customers that drive our success. From handwritten letters to endless online reviews, our customers shape the outcome of the company. At the end of the day, we are only as successful as the results that our customers experience.
Beauty secret?
Drink more water! I cannot stress enough the importance of hydration for your body and your skin. Healthy skin really does start from within, so go refill your water bottle and get your hydration started. You will not only feel better, but also see the benefits glowing through your skin.
Wellness tip?
I always clean my face before bed—it’s a must-do every night. It allows your skin to breathe and absorb your nighttime moisturizer or serum, while also washing away any impurities from the day. Our Calming Cleanser is gentle enough for sensitive skin, yet also helps remove eye makeup. Then I follow with our Calming Moisturizer for a soothing end to my day.
Best advice?
Be kind to yourself and take care of yourself. You are a miraculous creation and should never take yourself for granted.
Favorite way to relax?
I’ve always loved getting lost in movies and find it the best way to relax. From a young age I have been obsessed with the lives written into the films and the imaginary people on screen. I could rewatch a movie 100 times and still enjoy it like it was the first time I had ever seen it.
