Behind the Brand: CharleyMadelyn Empowers Women Through Faith and Fashion
Faith has always played an important role in Chelsea Jennette’s life and encouraged her to believe that anything is possible, which ultimately led her to create CharleyMadelyn, an online faith and fashion boutique. Jennette—who is also a healthcare attorney, successful blogger (A Fashionable Believer), and mother of twins—has always been passionate about fashion and her faith in God, and launched her brand to empower and inspire women everywhere so they can look and feel great both on the inside and the outside.
“I have always loved fashion and clothes, and have always been passionate about my faith and sharing my experiences and journey as a Believer,” says Jennette. “In 2017 I started my blog, which focused on faith and fashion—seeing these worlds collide gave me the idea for a boutique. Also, I truly believe that God gave me this vision and put in my heart this desire.”
After overcoming the challenges that she and her husband faced during their fertility journey, Jennette was inspired to give back and help other couples that were going through the same thing. Powered by her own experience, she continues to serve as a support system by encouraging others to keep believing in themselves as they pursue their dreams of starting their own families.
We chatted with Jennette, who shared the inspiration behind her online boutique, how she empowers others through faith and fashion, why she supports couples going through their fertility journeys, and more.
When was CharleyMadelyn founded?
CharleyMadelyn was founded on June 11, 2020. CharleyMadelyn is named after my one-year-old twin daughters, Charley and Madelyn. Our mission was to empower women through faith and fashion, and to encourage them that the best is yet to come. Charley and Madelyn represent to me hope and faith. As my husband and I had a year-and-a-half fertility journey before conceiving our twin girls, I just remember hoping and believing that something greater was coming.
How did you get your start as a blogger?
I started blogging in 2017 as a way to share my journey as a Believer and also share about my favorite fashion tips. Over the years it has certainly evolved and I have loved the community we have created, as well as the amazing people and brands I have been able to work with.
Tell us more about your line of faith-based items and accessories.
As much as CharleyMadelyn is about fashion, it's also about faith. We stepped out in faith to launch our brand with the hope and confidence that God set this in our hearts, so we knew we wanted to incorporate faith and sell faith items to encourage and empower women. We sell devotional books, journals, and coffee mugs with encouraging scriptures and messages. We also have a collection of jewelry such as necklaces and earrings. They all have an element of color or chicness. The earrings are from Designed for Joy and Michelle McDowell, which are women-based businesses that are local. We also carry additional sizes outside of the norm because we truly believe that everyone has a place in our boutique. We aim to provide styles that are avaliable in XL-3X.
What’s your most popular item? Favorite item?
Ahhh, that's so hard! I love all of the things. So far, my favorite item is our Blushin' in Pink Puff Sleeve Top. It’s the embodiment of chic and feminine with the statement plaid sleeves. Our most popular items so far have been our loungewear set, our floral dresses, and just recently we sold an oversized crop sweater and terra cotta-colored dress that we paired together. It sold out within a day!
Where are your products sold?
We are an online boutique so all of our products are sold online; however, we attend local pop-ups twice a month. We love those because we get to actually meet face-to-face and learn about who our clients are.
What causes are important to you?
Generally, CharleyMadelyn is built on empowering women to dream big and that anything that they desire is possible through God. We also want to encourage women that the best is yet to come. We believe that our journeys that we experience and go through allow us to become warriors on the other side and allow us to share with others to encourage others that are going through the same thing. Because of that, we offer 10% of our monthly proceeds to a couple that is either just starting their fertility journey or in the midst of it.
Also, we have partnered with Designed For Joy and offer a part of their collection on our website. Designed for Joy is a transitional work experience for women coming from trafficking, homelessness, time in prison, overcoming addiction or other vulnerable situations. They provide living wage work hours while building confidence and refreshing resumes. I am so grateful to partner with them and aid in their mission.
What's next for the brand?
We want to continue to serve our clients as much as possible. We are always looking for ways to make shopping online easier. We want to focus on offering a unique experience at CharleyMadelyn, whether it's online or in person. Things that we are currently working on are creating an experience where for each new clothing product we add, we have a video sharing about this particular sizing and feature.
We also are going to start offering our local clients opportunities to either pick up their order at a central location or if they want to actually touch the item and get an idea of how it feels before purchasing, we will offer that opportunity as well. Also, we are so incredibly excited to start working on having a brick-and-mortar location!
