Behind the Brand: N.A. Waterman Eye Catching Jewelry Features Handcrafted Designs for Any Occasion
During a trip to the Cayman Islands in 2003, Natasha Waterman couldn’t find any unique pieces of jewelry that matched the wardrobe she was taking on her trip—so she eventually decided that she would make her own.
“I just love wearing jewelry with my swimsuits,” says Waterman. “One day, it just dawned on me that I could make the exact type of jeweled pieces I was looking for and I did just that. All of the jeweled pieces are designed and handmade by me. I am passionate about fashion and I absolutely love jewelry. I believe that a great piece of jeweled accessory completes any outfit or look.”
N.A. Waterman Eye Catching Jewelry is a full-service jewelry business that makes handcrafted jewelry for almost every part of the body, including stylish foot pieces (barefoot sandals) that are perfect for the beach, hand jewelry, head bands, hair clips, and more.
We chatted with Waterman, who shared more about the story behind her unique designs, bestselling style, what’s next for the company, and more.
What inspired the creation of N.A. Waterman Eye Catching Jewelry?
I was inspired to create my own jewelry line after family and friends saw the jewelry I wore on my trip to the Cayman Islands and wanted me to make them a few pieces. I could not find jewelry to go with my outfits for my trip, so I decided to design and create a few pieces. Also, I love wearing jewelry with my swimsuits, so I decided to design a few Barefoot Sandals to wear on the beach since normal shoes are impossible to wear.
What’s the meaning behind the name?
The name is my first and middle initials, and Waterman is my last name. I love my name and wanted to have a business that would keep that name going even if it changes once I get married. I incorporated the eye-catching part because I believe my pieces immediately catch your eyes when someone is wearing them.
Tell us more about your line and what makes it special.
I design and handcraft all the pieces. I don't purchase pieces from a manufacturer and put my name on them. I don't have someone else design my pieces. I also believe my jewelry pieces are unique because they doesn't follow the trend of the moment. I try to create pieces that can be considered classic and timeless.
What inspires your jewelry designs?
My inspiration for my designs pretty much comes to my mind after I see a piece of clothing. For example, I could see a wedding gown and picture the jewelry piece(s) I would wear with it. So I guess you can say my inspiration comes from clothing designers.
What’s your bestselling/favorite design?
At the moment, my most popular piece is the Barefoot Sandals. I think with most people staying home to entertain or going away to have a small destination wedding, you still want to adorn your feet. What better way than with a pair of Barefoot Sandals? I have to say my favorite design is the Barefoot Sandals. I just love how the designs are so intricate. My favorite piece I designed is the Enchanted.
Where are your products sold?
My jewelry is currently sold exclusively on my online jewelry boutique.
What's next for the brand?
My future plan is to expand my business and give the opportunity to others to learn to design and create these pieces. I would like to have others sell the pieces they create under the N.A. Waterman umbrella and receive a substantial percentage from the sales. I would also love to have many of my pieces sold in fine department stores.
