Burt’s Bees Researches Bakuchiol’s Efficacy to Reduce Skin Inflammation and Irritation
Scientific evidence shows inflammatory skin conditions are on the rise, likely due to wearing face masks. Natural skincare company Burt’s Bees performed its own research and the results provided valuable insight into the efficacy of bakuchiol, a natural retinol alternative and the potent antioxidant-rich botanical turmeric, according to Hemali Gunt, PhD, head of clinical and scientific affairs at Burt’s Bees.
Protect Yourself With These Stylish Face Masks
“Bakuchiol and turmeric are proven to be powerful yet gentle nature-based ingredients that are key to helping improve the condition of the skin and lips,” said Gunt.
According to Burt’s Bees’ research, bakuchiol:
Inhibits inflammatory markers in vitro
Is well-tolerated on and clinically improves appearance of sensitive and photo-damaged, aging skin
Holds antioxidant and anti-inflammatory benefits of a natural lip balm containing turmeric
About the Research
According to the press release: “The anti-inflammatory effects of topical bakuchiol was evaluated in vitro on test tissues before and after UVB exposure. The tolerability and efficacy of a topical bakuchiol was also studied in a four-week study with female subjects who have sensitive, photo-aging skin.”
Bakuchiol was effective with unique anti-inflammatory properties when the research results showed a significant decrease in release of inflammation and irritation markers.
