Create Collages and Sketch with Renowned Artist Derek Gores at Hotel Bel-Air
For the first time ever, Hotel Bel-Air is hosting an artist in residence: internationally-renowned collage artist Derek Gores is coming to the hotel with a month-long exhibition from Feb. 6 to 29, which will feature unique and carefully selected pieces inspired by the legendary property and its rich history. In addition, there will be two exclusive workshops where guests will have the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to create their own pieces with the artist.

Gores is best known for his stunning collages that feature recycled magazines, maps, data, and more in lush portraits on canvas. By rearranging the scraps, he forms a surrealist image, where from afar a nearly photo-realistic image comes into focus. Upon closer look, the small scraps feature other pictures, song lyrics, charts, patterns, and other interesting designs. The balance of detail and playfulness in each piece reveals his knack for discovery and for building seemingly endless puzzles into his works.
The following workshops are open to guests and non-guests, and are complimentary to attend:
Sketch Workshop (Feb. 8, 2-4 p.m.)
Attendees will have the opportunity to draw the hotel’s iconic swan lake with the guidance of Gores.
RSVP by Feb. 3
Collage Class (Feb. 11, 5-7 p.m.)
Allows guests the opportunity to express themselves through paper collage led by Gores.
RSVP by Feb. 5
