Four Seasons Resort and Residences Napa Valley: A Luxury Vineyard Retreat in the Heart of California's Wine Country
Four Seasons Resort and Residences Napa Valley is a Forbes Five-Star resort located on a world-class vineyard with a working winery in Calistoga, CA.
Part of the greater Napa Valley and located at its northernmost tip, Calistoga is a charming city famous for its wineries, hot springs, and mud baths. It’s home to more than 50 wineries, many of which are family-owned, and offers visitors an abundance of activities to enjoy—all set against a beautiful backdrop of sprawling vineyards, rolling hills, and oak-studded mountains.
The area is also rich in Hollywood history and was a favorite hideaway in the 1940s and 1950s, attracting movie stars who came to enjoy its hot springs and mud baths. It’s within driving distance of other towns and major attractions including the City of Napa, Yountville, St. Helena, Healdsburg, and Sonoma, to name a few. Whether you choose to spend most of your time in Calistoga or explore neighboring towns and wineries, there is never a shortage of things to see and do.
For our anniversary getaway, my husband and I spent several days at Four Seasons Resort and Residences Napa Valley, a luxury Forbes Five-Star property that is a little over a mile from Calistoga’s main center. Set within a world-class vineyard with magnificent views, a luxury spa, Michelin-starred restaurant, and the personalized service that Four Seasons is known for, it’s the ultimate wine country retreat.

The resort also offers a variety of activities and experiences ranging from wine tastings and special dinners to culinary classes and scenic hot-air balloon rides—many are complimentary while others can be booked for an additional cost.
For those seeking local adventures, an impressive selection of wineries, restaurants, hot springs and mud baths, and other Napa Valley landmarks are within close proximity of the resort.

Accommodations
Four Seasons Napa Valley’s 85 guest rooms, suites, and villas feature an elevated farmhouse aesthetic combined with modern elements and locally-sourced artwork, offering a comfortable and charming setting for a relaxing stay that feels like home.
Guests can choose between stylish and well-appointed guest rooms, expansive suites with separate living areas, or residential villas which are designed to accommodate larger groups with two to four-bedrooms, as well as indoor and outdoor living spaces. Select villas have an outdoor hot tub or private pool for the ultimate upgrade.
Accommodations include comfortable and elegant guest rooms, suites, and residential villas. (Pictured: Vineyard King Room).
We stayed in a Palisades King Room that had a fireplace and spacious balcony overlooking the vineyards, which was so peaceful. During our stay, we got into the routine of ordering room service for breakfast and eating on our balcony while enjoying the view, as well as ending our day watching the sunset with a glass of wine.
Our bathroom was ultra-luxurious and included double vanity sinks, a spacious shower, and a deep soaking tub. It was stocked with Le Labo products, and the spa retails an amazing lavender and grapeseed bath soak in its boutique, which I purchased and used in my nightly baths—the perfect ending to each day.
A special bath menu is available and includes a selection of elevated offerings such as bath bombs, magnesium flakes, mineral soaks, and bubble elixirs that will be brought to your room. There’s even a kids’ bath option, and you can also add on a face or eye mask as well.
Guest accommodations at the resort also feature luxurious bathrooms with deep soaking tubs.
Amenities
Two large outdoor swimming pools are located at the center of the resort—one for adults, the other for families complete with a shallow splashing area. Upgrade your poolside experience by booking a daybed or one of the 15 cabanas; we spent an afternoon lounging on one of the comfy daybeds and swimming while enjoying the vineyard views from both pools.
The Super Cabanas are furnished with sofa seating and chaises, flat-screen TVs, Bluetooth access, and Wi-Fi. They also include a dedicated cabana host who greets guests with complimentary amenities, fresh fruit, and various beverages. There’s also an outdoor hot tub, 24-hour fitness center, bocce ball court, ping-pong table, and fire-pits.
Complimentary bicycles with baskets are available for resort guests to use both on and off-property. My husband and I enjoyed a morning bike ride around the resort, throughout the residences, and in the neighborhood behind the property. It was such a magical experience to bike past rows of vineyards in the beautiful Calistoga countryside and was another highlight of our trip.
Four Seasons Napa Valley has also partnered with Lucid Group, Inc. to offer guests complimentary access to Lucid Air premium electric vehicles. Guests can reserve a Lucid vehicle for up to four hours at no cost, either online or on-property.
During our stay and prior to the partnership, the resort had complimentary Polestar electric vehicles so we reserved one and went to Yountville one morning to get breakfast at Bouchon Bakery. It was a lot of fun being able to explore the countryside and drive around, and I also appreciate the resort’s commitment to being more eco-friendly with this offering.
The resort has two outdoor swimming pools with cabanas and daybeds nestled amongst the vineyards.
Cuisine
Four Seasons Napa Valley has an impressive selection of culinary offerings from fine dining to casual fare. In addition to its three restaurants, there is a poolside menu and guests can use the in-room iPads to order room service.
Auro
The only Michelin-starred restaurant in Calistoga, Auro is helmed by Executive Chef Rogelio Garcia, who utilizes his global cooking techniques to highlight local produce and artisans in his dishes, pairing them with local wines.
Auro offers a seasonal seven-course tasting menu and is located in an intimate dining space next to TRUSS. Examples of menu items include 10-Day Dry-Aged Japanese Shima Aji, Japanese Senaka Bluefin Tuna, and Hudson Valley Millbrook Venison, among others.
Auro is open from Wednesday to Saturday; we arrived on Sunday and left on Wednesday in the early afternoon, so we weren’t able to dine at Auro during our trip, but we definitely will make a reservation there next time we visit Napa!
Auro is the resort’s Michelin-starred fine dining restaurant that showcases a seasonal, seven-course tasting menu.
TRUSS Restaurant + Bar
Open daily for every meal, TRUSS is also led by Chef Garcia and offers casual dining in an elevated atmosphere. The interior features stylish furniture and design details, and it also has a cozy outdoor patio with a firepit and additional seating, as well as a bar area.
When we weren’t enjoying room service or poolside fare, TRUSS was our go-to dining destination. We ate there for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and even an afternoon snack with cocktails. Their menu offers a variety of classics featuring farm-fresh and locally-sourced ingredients.
A few of our favorite menu items included the chilaquiles and French toast for breakfast; TRUSS cheeseburger and turkey club with fries served with an amazing tomato aioli for lunch; and burrata salad, Tagliatelle pasta, and filet mignon for dinner.
With Derek Masterson as its sommelier, TRUSS also has an impressive selection of wine, beer, cocktails, and zero-proof options as well. One of the mocktails I enjoyed was the Just Peachy, featuring a mixture of peach, thyme, Aperol, lemon, and club soda. Sweet and refreshing!
TRUSS Restaurant + Bar is open for every meal and is a great spot for a casual breakfast, elevated date night, small bites on the patio, and drinks at the bar.
Outdoor dining is also available at TRUSS and guests can enjoy snacks and cocktails by the fireplace.
Campo
Located between the two swimming pools, Campo is the resort’s open-air poolside restaurant that serves a combination of Cal-Mexican dishes and other poolside favorites. Guests can either dine in the restaurant area or have food brought directly to their poolside loungers.
During our afternoon by the pool, we dined at Campo and tried the Campo Salsa Tasting, a tasty trio of three salsas/dips; an assortment of tacos, and two different types of Agua Frescas—Hibiscus Tea and Agua de Magica, a combination of strawberry, blood orange, vanilla, and Yuzu.
S’mores kits are also available for purchase to enjoy at any of the resort’s firepits, which makes for a fun evening activity.
Spa & Wellness
One of the highlights of our stay was visiting Spa Talisa, the resort’s luxury spa. Inspired by the Native American term for “beautiful water,” the spa is centered on holistic healing for the mind and body. Upon arrival at the resort, it’s one of the first things you see, located in a beautiful building next to the main lobby.
Spa Profile: Spa Talisa at Four Seasons Resort and Residences Napa Valley
With a relaxing water feature in front of it, the spa’s interior and exterior feature a modern, organic aesthetic. The exterior resembles a Tuscan countryside estate with its contemporary rustic design, stone details, glass windows, and pitched metal roofs.
Spa Talisa features a modern, organic aesthetic that draws inspiration from the California countryside.
Throughout the spa, there is a great sense of space with large windows that showcase the vineyard views and light-filled rooms and hallways. Inspired by rich farmhouse architectural tradition, the spa blends seamlessly into its natural setting surrounded by gardens and vineyards.
In addition to a spacious co-ed relaxation lounge upstairs, there is an outdoor Zen garden with a sunning deck, sunken outdoor whirlpool, as well as a mud and sun bay. There are separate co-ed patios with additional loungers, water features, and misting decks for cooling off on warmer days.
Spa amenities include sunning decks and views of the surrounding vineyards.
One of Spa Talisa’s signature treatments is the Calistoga Mud & Sun Experience, which can be enjoyed alone or with someone. My husband and took turns applying mineral-rich mud all over each other from the neck down, then we relaxed on towels under the sun in the mud and sun bay area before rinsing off under the outdoor showers. It’s a great way to soften skin, detoxify the body, and soothe sore muscles before your main spa service.
Tip: The Mud Experience is complimentary with the purchase of any 80-minute spa service. If you book a 50-minute treatment, it costs $35. It costs $50 a la carte without a spa service.
The spa menu incorporates various indigenous ingredients and products from Napa and Italy into its treatments, along with Lola’s Apothecary, a premium self-care brand from England.

Elusa Winery
Another great thing (and one of the truly unique features) about staying at Four Seasons Napa Valley is that you don’t have to leave the property to visit a winery. Elusa Winery is conveniently located on resort grounds just steps away from the main entrance and lobby.
While there are many great wineries in the Napa Valley area and wine tasting is a popular activity, it’s an added bonus to have an on-site winery and tasting room because then you don’t have to deal with driving or booking a car service and can just walk back to your room afterwards!
We were greeted by Elusa Winery estate host Natalya Swensen, a Napa Valley local who impressed us with her extensive knowledge of wine. During our visit, she educated us about the story of Elusa and its collection of wine, as well as the winemaking process and general history.
The 4.7-acre vineyard and Elusa Winery are in partnership with renowned winemaker Thomas Rivers Brown. The winery is focused on making high-quality Calistoga-centric wines and focuses primarily on producing Cabernet Sauvignon, but it also makes Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Franc, and Petite Sirah as well.
The Elusa wine library features a collection of Napa Valley vintages that date back to their first 2010 harvest, and their wines are created in small quantities, exclusively available to guests and members.
The resort is also home to Elusa Winery, a fully operational, hand-farmed vineyard that offers premium tasting sessions and experiences.
We enjoyed a guided tour of the vineyard on a golf cart and we got a sneak peek behind the scenes of the winemaking facilities including the Tank Room and cellar, where we had the pleasure of meeting the winemaker, Jonathan Walden, a rising star in the winemaking world.
Afterwards, we had a private tasting in the Tasting Salon where we sampled four different wines accompanied by a spread of cheese, prosciutto, dried cherries, and nuts. Natalya also offered a few pours of some of Elusa’s other wines as a bonus, all of which we enjoyed. We loved their wine so much that we ended up taking home a bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon as well.
Membership is available at Elusa Winery and comes with many perks including special discounts, access to members-only events, annual complimentary tastings, exclusive access to wines not available to the public, and even discounts on room, spa, and dining at the resort. Elisa Winery is open seven days a week from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. While they welcome walk-ins and same-day testings, reservations are highly recommended. To make a reservation, call (707) 403-6644 or visit their website.

Meetings & Events
With 15,786 square feet of total event space in a beautiful setting, it’s no wonder Four Seasons Napa Valley is also a popular location for weddings, meetings, and conferences. The hotel lobby overlooks a picturesque artificial lake with a lakeside lawn and terrace, making it a premier spot for weddings and cocktail parties.
There is a Vineyard Barn in the center of the vineyard with high ceilings and large barn doors accompanied by an adjacent lawn, creating the perfect rustic-chic atmosphere for various dinners and other private events. The resort also has a huge ballroom, pre-function space, cork room, and several other intimate event spaces and tech-equipped conference rooms designed to accommodate all events big and small.
Corporate groups and retreats will enjoy unique activities and immersive experiences such as master wine blending, cooking lessons, yoga in the vines, and other off-site activities as well.
Four Seasons Napa Valley has a team of expert planners to ensure that the planning and execution of your event goes smoothly, along with excellent catering options. Any event held at the resort is guaranteed to impress your guests and leave a lasting impression.

Nearby Attractions and Activities
Four Seasons Napa Valley is conveniently located within driving distance of other Napa Valley towns, wineries, spas, mud baths, and dining outlets. It’s just over a mile away from the main center of Calistoga, which has restaurants, boutiques, tasting rooms, art galleries, and more. Solage, Auberge Resorts Collection is located directly across the street from the resort as well.
The resort offers a complimentary car that guests can have drop them off and pick them from the nearby town center. One night we ventured out and had dinner at Lovina, a popular brunch and dinner spot located in a historic Craftsman house in Calistoga’s town center. The restaurant is named after Lovina Graves Cyrus, a survivor of the Donner Pass in 1847. The tip-free establishment serves American fare and all of the food was fantastic. Dishes to try include the fresh-baked sourdough bread with pistachio pesto butter, Sonoma apple salad, Wine Forest Risotto, and fresh gnocchi alla vodka.
Those traveling with children can utilize the resort’s complimentary Kids For All Seasons program, which is available daily from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. for kids ages 5 to 12. The resort will organize fun activities to keep kids entertained while their parents can relax or go wine tasting. Activities include walks through the vineyards, scavenger hunts, arts and crafts, and games.
The Four Seasons’ Concierge was instrumental in making our trip a success, helping us to book a car service and make reservations at several wineries for an afternoon of wine-tasting.
There are an endless selection of world-class wineries to choose from during your visit—we visited Duckhorn Vineyards in St Helena and Ashes & Diamonds Winery in Napa. Both experiences were wonderful and completely different from one another. The Concierge is located in the lobby by the entrance and is a great resource for guests—don’t be shy to reach out to them!
Complimentary resort bicycles are also available for guest use.
