Fringe Benefits: 3 Ways to Style Bangs
Bangs are back in a big way this year, and celebrity hairstylists Coby Alcantar of Oribe, Garren of R+Co, and Jen Atkin of OUAI provide tips on how to style fringe with different haircuts. Below, we feature three of the hottest styles that look great with bangs:
Look 1: Bangs with a medium-length/shag cut.
“Ask for bangs and figure out what shape you want,” says Coby Alcantar, Director of Training & Content, Cutting for Oribe. “Bangs are a great accessory and an easy way to change a look. They don’t have to be short—they can be long and still have a dramatic change.”
How to Style:
Use the curve of your head to wrap dry. This can be done with a brush and blowdryer, or just your hands and water.
Mix Oribe Power Drops with Oribe Supershine Moisturizing Cream and let air-dry to protect and condition, while adding shine and softness.
Look 2: Full bang/fringe with a blunt, short bob.
“This cut is like a layered bob with texture, but it can still be polished off,” says Garren, celebrity hairstylist and Co-Founder of R+Co. “It’s almost like a bowl cut but the sides are more square.”
How to Style:
Use R+Co Television Perfect Hair Shampoo & Conditioner, or R+Co Analog Cleansing Foam Conditioner for shampoo and conditioner.
On smoother, straighter hair, use R+Co Sail Soft Wave Spray and blow it loosely or let it dry on its own.
For curly hair, use R+Co Motorcycle Flexible Gel, and for a softer curl, R+Co Twister Curl Primer.
For more volume for straighter hair, use R+Co Skyline Dry Shampoo Powder on the scalp, then blow it through hair with cold air or with R+Co Trophy Shine + Texture Spray.
Look 3: Textured fringe with a short, shag cut.
Tell your stylist you want a lot of movement and texture, especially towards the ends and in the fringe,” says Jen Atkin, celebrity hairstylist and Founder of OUAI Haircare. “It also helps to show your stylist screenshots of looks that you like, as long as they’re of someone with similar texture/length to yours.”
How to Style:
Spritz OUAI Wave Spray onto hair and let it do its thing—less is more.
For moisture, apply a dime-size amount of OUAI Finishing Creme, which also helps to tame flyaways.
