Lancôme Acquires Farm Estate in the French Perfume Town of Grasse
Since the 17th century, Grasse has been the center of the French perfume industry and is recognized as the perfume capital of the world. Known for its sweet-smelling lavender fields, the beautiful city is located in the south eastern part of France in the area of Provence and is home to three parfumeries, including Galimard (which dates back to 1747).

Iconic beauty brand Lancôme has acquired a farm estate in Grasse that has been cultivated for five centuries and is one of the pioneers of organic cultivation of perfume plants in Grasse. Called Domaine de la Rose by Lancôme, the estate has four acres of organically farmed lands, centuries-old terraces, and a distillery.
Now Lancôme has become an owner and producer of organic roses and other aromatic plants of the region like verbena that will be used in the brand’s fragrances. They plan to use all parts of the rose bush from the root to the petal, to develop new active ingredients with a zero-waste approach in all of their production processes.

Domaine de la Rose by Lancôme is also home to olive, fig, and plum trees, in addition to native plants to the region such as iris, lavender, jasmine, and tuberose—which Lancôme will continue to cultivate. Currently, Lancôme sources roses for its skincare products from a five-acre field in Valensole, France; as well as roses, lavender, and jasmine for perfume from another field in Grasse.
The rose is an iconic symbol in Lancôme’s history—founder Armand Petitjean grew roses in his garden at Ville d’Avray and the brand’s original logo was inspired by the roses that grow around the ruins of the castle Château de Lancosme.
