Meet Nail Artist Tiffany Frazier

I am very picky about my nails.  Very. Picky.

I’m a total snob and have had one too many bad sets in my life. I will not go to just anyone. Under normal circumstances, (ahem, not during a pandemic) I would get my nails done religiously.

Every 2+ weeks you could find me at the salon. I’m all about trying new shapes (almond, please!) and bright new colors. Neon yellow (with chrome) probably isn’t appropriate for the courtroom, but it’s my favorite.  

Going to the salon regularly was part of my beauty and wellness routine, and something I really miss.  Not only because I like to have amazing nails, but also the camaraderie and spending time with people in the salon.  2020 and 2021 have been especially difficult for stylist and nail techs, and I encourage everyone to look for opportunities to support them if you can. 

It’s been difficult for all of us in many ways, but if you’re able to go to the salon, think about tipping your stylist just a little bit extra or bringing coffee. Sometimes it’s the little things that go a long way. And remember, if they’re running behind or you can’t get the exact appointment you wanted, give them just a little bit of leeway. 

Several years ago, I had the pleasure of meeting the lovely Tiffany Frazier. Not only is she incredibly talented, but she has a heart of gold. I have come to know her not only as my favorite nail tech but also my friend.  She’s the only one I will let touch my nails and for good reason.

I recently asked Tiffany few questions about herself, her business, and tips she wanted to share. Here’s what she had to say:

How did you get started?

I started working in the nail industry when I was 17. I went to a vocational technical high school where cosmetology was offered. As a requirement of the program, we had to intern at a salon. My mom found an open position at a nail salon for me and once I started working there I was hooked. Even when I wasn’t sure if nails were going to be my lifelong career, they played a supporting role in my life. Ta-da! Here I am 14 years later and I love what I do.

Favorite product you use on your clients and what trends in nails are you loving?

Right now I’m loving Luminary Nail Systems. I use their gels to help grow my client’s natural nails. They have great wearability and a beautiful selection of nudes and naturals. Trend-wise, I’m loving the cat eye as well as the swirly ribbon lines circulating around Instagram.

Who is your inspiration?

I am inspired in a lot of different ways by a lot of different people. Everyone I come in contact with, everything I see, has the capacity to make a lightbulb go on in my brain. I am always on the look out for an ah-ha! moment. I try to always stay inspired.

Any tips on how we can take care of our nails/hands? (Especially with all the hand washing/sanitizing!)

It’s important to buy a sanitizer that is moisturizing. I love Hempz Pineapple Melon Hand Sanitizer because it doesn’t seem to dry out my hands like others. I recommend applying lotion and cuticle oil after every hand washing, but if that’s not possible, make these two a part of your bedside beauty routine—that way, while you sleep the products can work their magic. I also recommend gloves in a bottle. It’s a barrier creme that helps keep moisture in. I use this along with Hempz Hand and Foot Butter. Also, always wear gloves when cleaning. 

Any woman-owned/small businesses that you are currently loving and want to support?

Yes, I love Opulence Beauty Studio. Koti Sanders (@kutzitup) does an amazing job on my hair while Manesha Walker (@mannysbrowgram) keeps my brows looking amazing. I also love Melissa Harvey’s @studiochefs—they offer catering and private chef services as well as event planning.

Things that have brought you joy during these crazy times?

This has been a lesson in itself during the last year. I’ve found joy in decorating my home, doing yoga, playing video games with my son, and following TV series with my family.
