My 12-Night Ocean Journey With Sound Baths, Spa Days, and Wellness at Sea® Aboard Crystal Symphony

The Crystal Symphony has expanded its Wellness at Sea® itineraries for 2026 and 2027.

The realization hit me mid-meditation — this was no ordinary sound bath. As the vibrations of gongs and crystal bowls swept over us, our group of two dozen serenity seekers lay on blankets in a dimly lit room, immersed together in a restorative sound experience. I’ve had my share of sound baths, but it was the first time I’d had one that moved.

A vibrational healing session while being gently rocked by waves was just one of many unexpected moments during my nearly two weeks with Crystal’s Wellness at Sea® program.

The ultra-luxury cruise line has created a slate of offerings incorporating exercise, spa rituals, healthy cuisine, longevity education, one-on-one nutritional consultations, and nature-focused excursions.

Water aerobics in the Seahorse Pool were a popular activity during the 12-day Wellness at Sea cruise on Crystal Symphony.

Our 12-night ocean journey on Crystal Symphony took us from San Diego to Mexico, El Salvador, Costa Rica, and Ecuador, giving me plenty of time to pick and choose activities that appealed to me — such as a hike through a Costa Rican cloud forest, a trip to volcanic hot springs in El Salvador, a humming session for vagus nerve activation, and a high-energy session of aqua aerobics in the sun.

Crystal is leaning further into wellness as travelers increasingly seek it out on vacation. My trip was the cruise line’s second wellness trip in 2026; they recently announced four new Wellness at Sea® retreats for 2027 on Crystal Symphony and its sister ship, Crystal Serenity.

When Crystal Grace launches in 2028, expect an expanded spa and even more wellness activities on tap.

Dalila Roglieri, Crystal Symphony’s Wellness Ambassador and culinary nutritionist, described how she tied disparate elements together in a holistic way that would satisfy guests across the spectrum of health and wellness — from yin yoga aficionados (raising my hand here) to travelers craving a pickleball game or high-intensity aerobics.

“I designed the entire program based on four pillars: nutrition, physical activity, mental well-being, and longevity science,” Roglieri told me. “It’s important that the program should not intimidate, and that every guest should feel comfortable.”

A lineup of plant-forward menu items were developed by Crystal’s head nutritionist, Dalila Roglieri, for the Wellness at Sea itinerary.

An international lineup of experts on my cruise included fitness specialist Minna McHale, dance workout leader Lacey Cleland, nutritionist and chef Abbie Gellman, yoga and mental well-being specialist Jenni Demus, and sound healing practitioner Kyle Lam.

Science-backed longevity education is a core element of that programming, said Roglieri. Among the speakers onboard were Prof. Virginia Boccardi of the University of Perugia, a widely published expert on telomeres and cellular senescence, and cardiologist Khalid Sheikh, MD.

The Wellness at Sea itinerary featured at least two types of yoga daily.

Smart aging is also front and center at the onboard Aurōra Spa, where my BIOTEC 2.0 Facial felt part indulgence, part high-tech tuneup.

After a double cleanse, toning, and facial massage came a procession of gadgets for galvanic treatment, ultrasonic peeling, and microcurrent and LED light therapy — all paired with products from the British botanical skincare line ELEMIS.

The Aurōra Spa onboard Crystal Symphony features 10 treatment rooms and a hair and nail salon.

As a microcurrent newbie, I was, shall we say, not so pleasantly shocked by its sharp and slightly painful sensations. But the results were worth it: my face glowed, and my skin tone was visibly smoother. Microcurrent aficionados, I wasn’t familiar with your game.

I was tempted to try one of the Aurōra Spa’s packages curated to complement Crystal’s wellness programming, such as a nearly six-hour Rejuvenation Experience, which featured the BIOTEC 2.0 facial along with a salt scrub, InBody570 Composition Analysis, and The Chariot of Light LED Therapy Massage.

Unlike on packed megaships, the Crystal Symphony’s suites and public spaces never felt crowded — guest capacity peaks at 606, and the ship boasts a nearly 1:1 guest-to-crew ratio.

My 430-square-foot Sapphire Veranda Suite was designed for lingering on its teak veranda, and was decorated in light teal and ecru with soft lighting and sculpted glass wall decorations.

A walk-in closet, an oversized rain shower stocked with Ortigia Sicilia amenities, ETRO robes to wrap yourself in, a fridge stocked with your personal choice of drinks, and individual butler service were still more refinements I appreciated.

The ship’s 909-square-foot Penthouse Suite offers panoramic ocean views, while the line also caters to solo travelers with 215-square-foot ocean-view single guestrooms and a range of room sizes between the two.

Crystal’s all-inclusive onboard dining was a draw for many of the fellow passengers I spoke to. In addition to choosing from more than 50 nutrition-focused dishes Roglieri developed for the sailing, guests can visit Umi Uma, the first Nobu outpost at sea and my chance to try Nobu Matsuhisa’s celebrated miso-marinated black cod (believe the hype).

A few afternoons, I found a seat by the window at the Bistro, with a warm tea blend of fennel, chamomile, turmeric and caraway; and enjoyed the daily-changing menus at the elegant Waterside Restaurant for dinner.

Crystal has no shortage of longtime devotees — several passengers I met had sailed with the line repeatedly — and Travel + Leisure readers named it the No. 1 Midsize-Ship Ocean Cruise Line in the magazine’s 2026 World’s Best Awards. The ships themselves have changed considerably in recent years.

After Abercrombie & Kent Travel Group acquired Crystal in 2022, Crystal Symphony and Crystal Serenity underwent a $170 million refurbishment that enlarged and updated their suites and gave the ships a lighter, more contemporary look.

Between all the scheduled activities, I happily spent many hours staring out to sea, watching the water shift through seemingly endless shades of blue and the sunsets change from one evening to the next. One sunset even surprised us with a rainbow.

On our last night, before disembarking in Guayaquil, Ecuador, we gathered for a gratitude meditation and guided Yoga Nidra session. It was a gentle way to close the journey — a final moment to take it all in before returning to schedules, obligations, and the demands of life on land.

With a capacity of just 606 guests, the Seahorse Pool and jacuzzi were never crowded.

Insider’s Tips:

  • Crystal is one of the industry’s most solo traveler-friendly cruise lines, and offers 215-square-foot ocean-view single guestrooms with a reduced solo supplement of just 25% on selected sailings, earning it the number one spot on U.S. News’ list of Best Cruises for Solo Travelers 2026.

  • Most of the items on the menu at the ship’s nine eateries can be ordered in half portions, a feature particularly handy for curious foodies on a 12-night cruise.
