Product Review: We Tried Philip B’s New Russian Amber Imperial Volumizing Mousse

I’ve been rocking a pixie cut for years, while my daughter Rachel sports a chin-length bob. One thing we have in common is hair that’s super-fine and straight as a pin. So, we’re always on the lookout for a volumizer that adds body without leaving our hair feeling crunchy or stiff.

When we tried Russian Amber Imperial Volumizing Mousse, new from Philip B, we knew the search was over. Since Rachel has longer hair than I do, she wants something that adds lots of volume and lift with gorgeous waves and shine, which this product delivered in spades.

Product Review: Philip B. Weightless Miracle Serum

Because my hair’s so short, I’m not looking for volume. Instead, I want a product that makes my hair appear thicker without weighing it down. The look I’m going for is specific. Imagine a cap of hair that lays just right. I have a Sassoon-trained hairdresser who gives me a great haircut, and I need a product to use before blow-drying that allows each strand to fall in place exactly the way she intended. This one performed even better than I’d imagined.

We Tried Philip B’s Peppermint Avocado Conditioner

The non-aerosol conditioning mousse pumps up fine, limp strands, while creating plenty of moveable, touchable hold. It’s also formulated without alcohol and loaded with organic ingredients such as wheat proteins, grape seed, and marine extracts. Go ahead, take a whiff of the rich, opulent scent with notes of Russian Amber. Divine.

Rachel’s Verdict

I’m in love with this amazing elixir. Finally, a product that delivers a luxurious hair experience unlike anything I’ve ever tried. After using it for the first time, my hair looked like I had a salon blowout. My 15-year-old son tried it on his curly hair and told me that it still felt soft and looked great the next day. The fact that he even noticed (he is a teenager after all) is pretty impressive.

Marianne’s Verdict

I was completely blown away by this product. One pump of this light, airy mousse seemed to disappear when I worked it through each strand. Using my fingers instead of a brush to blow-dry my hair, I watched as every lock fell into place just like I’d hoped. The result? A perfect cap of soft, shiny hair.

The Inspiration

Founder and CEO of Philip B, Philip Berkovitz, says that he was inspired to create the Russian Amber collection after a visit to the Amber Room in the Catherine Palace outside St. Petersburg.

“The amber wall panels gave off a warm, sensual, rich scent with a point of difference,” he says. “I’d never experienced anything like it before.” Admittedly, the products are designed with a wow factor that makes you feel pampered as royalty, but they also deliver amazing results.
