When you arrive for a Colorado Wild Rose Cure, you are in for a truly wild wellness experience inside the walls of Allegria Spa at the Park Hyatt Beaver Creek, which is ranked as one of the 10 best hotel spas in the country. My own personal experience began with a bit more of a wild ride than I had planned or would recommend for anyone else. Around the time I should have been walking into the Park Hyatt in Beaver Creek, I found myself stuck on the top of Vail Mountain.

With the gondola—and most direct mode of transportation—out of commission due to lightning in the vicinity, I had two choices: A) wait and cross my fingers that the storm passed in time to ride the gondola down and gun it from the Vail base area to Beaver Creek, or B) hike/trail-run down the mountain with lightning in sight and make it on time for the treatment.

I had such high hopes for my treatment that I went with option B and convinced my husband to join me. A bolt of lightning lit up the sky as soon as we started our downhill trek, but undeterred I put one foot in front of the other and an hour later made it safely to the bottom of the mountain. I arrived soon after at the 30,000 square-foot mountain oasis just in time for my treatment (which thankfully the accommodating spa staff was able to delay).

One step through the doorway into Allegria Spa and there was no doubt that I had made the right decision in running down the mountain. Perhaps if lightning had struck a bit closer, I may have had a different point of view!

Here’s what you’ll love about Allegria Spa:

·     Allegria Spa is warm and comforting from start to end—basically, it’s hard to leave.

·     Aqua Sanitas is a bonus that is worth spending at least 30 minutes soaking up the indoor version of Colorado’s natural hot springs. This five-step ritual inspired by ancient customs is included in every treatment.

·     Treatment room windows open up to the mountain, and depending on the treatment, one can let in the fresh air, sights, and sounds of the beautiful mountain locale.

Allegria Spa draws inspiration from the stunning alpine surroundings and offers restorative elements of nature for peak mind and body rejuvenation.

The Colorado Wild Rose Cure ($395 for 2 hours & 10 minutes) is essentially five solid treatments combined into one supreme multi-sensory experience. One look at the room and the treatment bed piled high with layers of sheets will give you a clue about the glorious modalities that await you inside. The corner room features a jetted tub, multiple windows overlooking the mountain, a cozy treatment bed, and room for the therapist to work their magic.

The service starts with an aromatic, all-over scrub. It incorporates rose and other wildflowers (but not in a cloying or overwhelming way) and gets rid of all rough and dry skin. Once the therapist has administered an invigorating rubdown, next up is a relaxing soak. My therapist gave me the option of up to 20 minutes in the jetted tub. I opted for 12 minutes, which ended up being just right for me in the bubbles, lavender, and essential oil. (I learned that less time in the tub equals more time on the massage table, but definitely don’t skip the tub altogether.) The soak also comes with a glass of bubbly, eucalyptus chilled towel, and lovely meditative solo time.

After the soak I dried off, hopped back onto the table, and slipped under the sheet just in time for the therapist to return. Next up was the massage, which I was looking forward to most during my spa extravaganza. The therapist used a combination of hot stones and hands for an equally soothing and deep-tissue, knot-retrieving hour. I told my therapist that I was a runner and he offered up some unique techniques that cleared out some tightness I’d been suffering through for a long time.

With creative (and absolutely effective) draping, he was able to work my back and legs simultaneously for a more holistic massage that finally cleared those hard-to-reach knots. The hot stones and rose geranium body butter combined for muscle-melting bliss. The massage portion is customizable, so whatever you prefer the therapist will target for you.

And, just when I thought the service was coming to a close, the therapist wrapped me up in the remaining blanket and cocooned me for a cozy scalp and facial massage, followed by a much-needed foot massage after my high-altitude hike and surprise mountain run. The heat built up under the blanket with the warm rose compresses, but held steady right at the perfect warm temperature.

It’s hard to think of a better way to recover from a day of hiking, biking, or skiing than a multi-hour, multi-modality treatment at Allegria Spa—though a quick service would be equally effective at this incredible destination. The Colorado Wild Rose Cure is one treatment I would absolutely run down, up, or around a mountain to do again. All you have to do to experience it is to call and book!

Insider Tip: Give yourself more time than you think you need before your treatment, as that will ensure that you’ll be able to enjoy the incredible spa facilities in addition to the treatment. The Aqua Sanitas hydrotherapy and thermal circuit is unparalleled and deserves dedicated time to soak it all in.

And afterwards, do yourself a favor and book a room (there are nearly 200 on the property), because let’s face it, you won’t want to venture further than a walk down the hallway and a change into a different robe after any of the Allegria Spa treatments—especially an extended signature treatment like the Colorado Wild Rose Cure.
