Spa Review: We Tried the Hydrating Rose Facial at Jurlique Skin Studio
The moment that I learned about the opening of the new Jurlique Skin Studio in Pacific Palisades, California—I couldn’t wait to book an appointment. As a huge fan of the skincare brand, which sources its ingredients from a 100-acre organic farm in South Australia, I’ve always loved the company’s high-performing and natural-based skin care (not to mention the gorgeous packaging!)
Jurlique Skin Studio Opens in Pacific Palisades, California
Jurlique Skin Studio is located inside Pharmaca, a full-service pharmacy that sells traditional health products along with beauty supplies. For almost 20 years, Pharmaca has been offering a variety of holistic solutions for health concerns and has multiple locations in six western states, including California. The Pacific Palisades is one of the locations and is a charming family-friendly coastal neighborhood located between the Pacific Ocean and the Santa Monica Mountains, making it the perfect spot to get a facial followed by lunch or shopping.
Here’s what you’ll love about Jurlique Skin Studio:
It’s located inside the Pharmaca store in Pacific Palisades, CA so you can browse and shop various skincare and beauty brands—including Jurlique—before or after your treatment.
The brand-new Palisades Village development by Rick Caruso is within walking distance and has many great restaurants, stores, and more.
The cozy studio offers an intimate setting in a stylish space for ultimate relaxation.
All treatments are performed by paramedical esthetician Lilly Moon, who is also the founder of Lilly Moon Skin in Santa Monica, CA.
Jurlique Skin Studio offers a variety of express 30-minute facials, which are perfect for those that have limited time but want radiant, healthy-looking skin.
All facials costs $60, making them a cost-effective yet high-quality option for glowing skin.
Different enhancements, such as eye treatments and a stone massage, are available for $20.
After parking at a meter on the street, I made my way inside Pharmaca and could not believe how big the place was. There were rows upon rows of beauty and skincare products, not to mention a pharmacy and a chiropractor’s studio. Since I had arrived a bit early for my appointment, I proceeded to browse the product selections and was amazed to find just about every brand under the sun, including Jane Iredale, Juice Beauty, and of course, Jurlique!
A few minutes prior to my service, I headed to the back of the story where the studio is located. I hung out in the waiting area next to the aquarium, where I was promptly greeted by my esthetician Lilly Moon. She is a paramedical esthetician who specializes in personalized skincare and facial treatments, and is also the founder of Lilly Moon Skin Care in Santa Monica, California. Moon performs all of the facials at Jurlique Skin Studio and knows the brand inside and out—so she was happy to answer any questions I had.
When I entered the studio, I immediately fell in love with the space. While it’s just one room, it has everything you need to enjoy a relaxing, high-quality facial—from a comfortable treatment bed to aromatherapy and the beautiful wall art, which depicts larger-than-life flowers from the Jurlique farm.
As I closed my eyes, Moon instructed me to take several deep breaths, and upon my next inhale I smelled a pleasant aromatherapy fragrance, which was accompanied by soothing music playing gently in the background—I was now entering the relaxation zone.
The studio menu offers a variety of express facials—today I was receiving the Hydrating Rose Facial, which is a decadent rose-themed experience that helps skin’s natural beauty bloom. The soothing and anti-aging facial treatment relaxes the senses, while an aromatic mask works synergistically to replenish and hydrate skin, infusing it with the essence of organic roses.
Moon began the treatment by washing my face with Jurlique Revitalising Cleansing Gel, accompanied by a sonic brush for a deeper cleansing. Next, she compressed my skin with a muslin cloth for several minutes, then applied a gentle peel packed with enzymes, which she left on for several minutes to encourage exfoliation and removal of dead skin cells.
Next, she used an ultrasonic device that vibrated to help “wiggle out” impurities from beneath the skin. This took the place of traditional extractions and was a lot less painful, not to mention that my skin wasn’t red or irritated afterwards—all contributing to that perfect glow!
After a serum application, she proceeded to massage my face, neck, and shoulders before applying a face mask. While waiting for the mask to set she gave me a relaxing hand massage, then spritzed my entire face with Rosewater Balancing Mist before gently pressing Activating Water Essence into my skin.
The best-selling mist harnesses the power of roses, giving skin a burst of freshness from handpicked petals. Rose gallica extract harvested from Jurlique’s rose garden refreshes, balances, and hydrates the skin, while marshmallow root extract and aloe vera extract help rebalance dryness and soothe the skin. The mist prepares the skin, whereas the essence activates deeper into the skin to provide the optimum environment to enhance the benefits of the serum.
To conclude the facial, Moon applied moisturizer and eye cream, finishing off with SPF to keep my skin protected when I went back outside. After I opened my eyes, she handed me a mirror so I could check out my newfound glow—and I was not disappointed. I also loved the strong yet pleasant scent of roses emanating from my skin!
In addition to the Hydrating Rose Facial, Jurlique Skin Studio also offers several other treatments depending on what your skin’s needs are. The Purely Detoxifying Facial is great if skin is congested or needs a deeper cleansing, while the Nutri-Define Ageless Facial is an anti-aging treatment for mature skin. For brightening up a dull complexion, the vitamin C-infused Rapid Radiance Antioxidant Facial will hydrate and boost skin’s appearance, whereas the Anti-Stress Soothing Facial refreshes and calms sensitive, red or irritated skin.
I absolutely loved the rose facial and would definitely get it again—it’s perfect when your skin is dry and if you want to get glowing for an event the same day. My esthetician insisted I step outside to check out my complexion under the sunlight, and I was amazed by how clear and fresh my skin looked. All of the Jurlique facials are 30 minutes long, making them ideal for those who don’t have much time yet want a high-quality skincare service with impressive results.
