Spa Profile: The Wellness Spa
Nestled away in a whimsical Wisconsin neighborhood rests The Wellness Spa, a century-old home turned into a world-class well-being oasis. Spanning eight acres and surrounded by lush greenery, The Wellness Spa offers massages, facials, manicures, pedicures, a salt room, and more. Plus, you gain access to infrared saunas with the purchase of any treatment.
The Wellness Spa is deeply inspired by Eastern medicine, evidenced by their qigong and tai chi classes—the latter of which is free to community members every Tuesday evening starting at 5:30 p.m. CT. Having visited the property for ourselves in October 2023, we have no hesitation in saying that The Wellness Spa is one of the most tranquil spas we’ve been to—and may very well be the best-kept secret in the Midwest.
Why? Because when you visit The Wellness Spa, you are enveloped in serenity. And unlike at other spas, the serenity stays with you once you leave the facilities. That’s because The Wellness Spa is located in a lowkey area of Wisconsin, without the hustle and bustle of big-city spas. (Take this LA girl’s word for it.)
We spoke with Deborah Adams, founder and owner of The Wellness Spa, about the spa’s amenities, must-try treatments, spa hacks, and more.
Why You’ll Love It: Our spa guests love the ambiance of the spa. They love that it's not just a spa in a strip mall or side building. When you come to our spa, you know that you’re going to get a full experience. You're going to park and walk up winding trails in nature. You’re going to come to our front door, and it's going to smell incredible when you come in. Whether you’re coming in for a special occasion or your weekly visit, you’re going to get that same warm, welcoming experience every time you get here. You'll get a plush, cozy robe to get into and you’ll have access to locker rooms, sun rooms, saunas—you name it.
Key Features: Massage services are probably our number one. We really treasure how different our massage experience is for our guests. And, of course, we have facials—like HydraFacials and other lovely, relaxing spa facials. We also do eyelashes, waxing, and other aesthetic treatments. We do all-natural nail services, like manicures and pedicures—which are outstanding. We have one, specifically, that's called a Healing Pedicure. It's done with a Thai wrap, which we compress onto the guest’s feet after they've been soaking in herbs. The soak is made with ginger, eucalyptus, and rosemary. We also have the salt spa, which is 24 by 13 feet and has heated floors.
Snacks Served: We pride ourselves on our seasonal snacks. Right now we're in fall, so there’s lots of cranberry and pumpkin spice. We give guests a little plate with small fruits, some crackers, little cubes of cheese, and nuts. Like I said, we update according to the seasons. One thing that remains regardless of the season, though, are our truffles. People love our truffles. If we left those off, everyone would complain.
Bonus: Because Wisconsin is so cold, we have all the warm things. We have hot tea, hot coffee, hot chocolate, and a warm neck wrap to keep guests cozy. Since everything here is wellness-oriented, we chose not to serve alcohol at our spa at all.
Insider’s Tip: Come early. We have infrared heat saunas, that are also complimentary, in the men's and women's locker rooms. Guests are welcome to come in up to half an hour before their service. We love for people to hang out in the locker room, sitting and relaxation areas, and the sunroom. The best thing is when you relax before or after your relaxing treatment. If the weather permits, people like to wander around the grounds.
Unique Treatment: This is going to sound crazy, but our massage services are our most unique treatment. Having been in this industry for 35 years, I've been to lots of spas all over the world. The one thing I get most frustrated with is getting a massage and realizing that it’s not a Wellness Spa massage. And I didn't title that, by the way. Our customers did, because our massages are that different from what everyone else is offering. That’s why we recently opened up a massage therapy program—because our massage is that special.
Splurge Treatment: Our Face and Body Renewal is definitely the splurge treatment. Our estheticians do this service and it is kind of like getting a full-body massage. You do a nice, thorough scrub first and then a nice exfoliation treatment. After that, we paint on an enzyme mask and wrap you up nice and tight like a little burrito. And as you’re all wrapped up, the facial takes place. Once the facial is complete, we unwrap you and take off the product with hot towels. It's better than a shower. After the hot towels, we apply lotion via massage right away. This is a 90-minute service, which we can also do as a couples’ service.
Insider’s Favorite: My favorite treatment is our Athena Massage—which features a hot stone back massage, followed by a full-body massage. Then you finish up with a beautiful, relaxing face treatment, which we call Total Tranquility. What makes our massages so special is that we have heated tables, and we put this giant hot pack on your feet while you're getting a back massage—which then goes on your back when your feet are getting worked on. It is just so grounding and beautiful.
Featured Brands: In the spa area, we always use Eminence Organic Skin Care for skin and body care because it’s a clean and organic brand. We also use GlyMed skincare and Keyano Aromatics and massage oils for treatments. Another favorite is Bon Vital Oils, which we infuse with our own line of essential oils.
