Luxury Stays and Getaways: Westgate Park City Resort & Spa Is Always in Season
In a city known as a winter destination, Westgate Park City Resort & Spa proves that there is never a wrong time to visit Park City.
The sprawling resort is popular during ski season, but it is filled with delights year-round—from amazing food and recreational amenities to a spa that gets everything right. Tucked high in the mountains, the resort caters to the luxury leisure traveler, to those celebrating special events, and to families who want the security of knowing their kids can safely play.
Grab a map when you arrive as not all levels are accessible from all elevators and finding each floor is half the fun.
Why You’ll Love It
While there is lots to do in the surrounding Park City area, Westgate Park City Resort offers you plenty of reasons to dally at its property. Pretty much everything you could need for a family or a couple’s getaway can be found on the grounds of this property.
There are separate swimming pool areas for families and adults, pickleball courts, an arcade, bike rentals, basketball courts, grills and several food and beverage options from casual to fine dining.
What to Expect
Westgate manages to mix comfort and luxury, excitement and serenity, and does so in a way that you can curate any type of experience that you desire. The rooms are filled with modern and lavish amenities (there are both steam showers and deep tubs) and there is a washer/dryer combo tucked away in the room for after the kids roll in the mud.
The chefs lay out mouth-watering spreads that will have you talking about your meals for months to come, but the suites provide full kitchens where you can also prepare your own meals.
In other words, what you can expect is an experience that you actually want.
Key Features
We’ll get to the rooms, cuisine, and spa in a moment—and those are truly the piece de resistance of Westgate Park City, but guest-centered design doesn’t stop or start there.
Let’s talk getting there and back. For those who drive, there is free valet parking, and each room comes with free self-parking as well. Guests with electric vehicles have access to a charging station.
As much as the resort offers plenty of reasons to stay, they recognize you might want to head to the charming downtown, Olympic Village, the ski slopes, the golf course, Redstone Theater or the outlet mall. No problem—they have free shuttle service and a free ski shuttle.
Whether it is sunny or snowy, whether you’re traveling with kids or are allergic to the tykes, the pools at Westgate will beckon you to get your fins on. Guests can enjoy year-round swimming and lounging with two indoor pools (including an indoor adults-only relaxation pool), two spa tubs, and a beautiful heated indoor/outdoor pool. The indoor family pool has a waterfall and is great for play or laps.
If you like your swim time to be peaceful, head over to the adult-only pool where the lights are dim, and you can tarry in the sauna or hot tub before and after your swim. Loungers surround the pool for those who want to read or nap in the richly humid atmosphere.
Westgate will also rent bikes, snowboards, and skis to anyone who wants them and will point guests in the direction of where to best use those items. Both the fitness center and business center are open 24 hours to accommodate both those who want to work and those who want to work out.
Cuisine
The chefs at Westgate Park City know how to wow their guests. Let’s start with Edge Steakhouse, though with fair warning, once you arrive here you might not want to leave–or eat anywhere else ever again.
A visit to Edge, one of the top 12 steakhouses in the nation, is a chance to dress up—and a dress code prohibiting flip flops, gym wear, T-shirts, tennis shoes or baseball hats is strictly enforced. Chef Wayne E. Christian leads a world-class culinary team to craft a steakhouse menu filled with creative and innovative dishes.
Every item on their starter menu is outstanding—a reason to go with a large group so that everyone can order something different and pass it around. Their steak sashimi and Waygu tartar are beautiful covenants of the entrees to come while the crafted cheese board will satisfy any charcuterie fan.
Even menu selections that may seem ordinary or mundane are dressed up with unforgettable flair. For example, it will be hard to think of mac and cheese as merely a kid’s meal option once you’ve tasted the black and white truffle mac and cheese, complete with Utah Irish cheddar, Parmesan, Gruyere, ditalini pasta, and demi-glace.
You can get fresh-caught trout, a half chicken or pork (or even some vegetarian options), but the real highlight are their steaks from Japanese or domestic (crossbred at Snake River Farms) Wagyu to Niman Ranch steaks from humanely raised cattle to dry aged Salt Lake City steaks. These meats are perfectly prepared with absolute attention to cut, preparation, and seasoning. Ask your server which of their finely prepared sauces go best with your cut of meat.
If you’re looking for a unique dining experience, Edge has you covered at their Alpenglobes with the Edge 360 Dining Experience. These outdoor dining pods can be reserved four times a night for a 90-minute dining experience. They also have an outdoor dining patio with fire pits for events, casual lunches or to enjoy a romantic dinner under the stars.
As much as one might like, not every meal can be a gourmet one. It’s why Westgate Park City has a few other options. Drafts Burger Bar is a great stop before or after skiing or swimming, with its casual gastropub environment and more than 50 beers from around the world.
While the outlet is casual, the food is still extraordinary with the culinary team figuring out how to make burgers, wings, and milkshakes a memorable meal.
When you’re in a hurry or just want something light, the Coffee Bar off the main lobby aims to delight with its selection of coffee, tea, and pastries. Take your offering to their outdoor patio and you can soak up Park City weather to the sounds of their waterfall.
Remember those full kitchens in their suites? You can stop by The Marketplace & Liquor Store to fill up the fridge.
Insider’s Tip
Make sure you get a copy of the resort map and take some time to figure out how to get from one part of the property to the other. There are maps posted near every elevator, but you’re going to want to plan your route whenever you go places because not every elevator bank will take you to all levels of the resort.
Consider it an adventure and a chance to get your steps in.
Spa Treatments
Serenity Spa is truly one of the treasures of the resort. They have a deep understanding that spa isn’t a treatment, it’s an experience. It might be why they have snagged the “Best of State Award” for “Best Destination Spa” every year since 2017.
Spa Profile: Serenity Spa at Westgate Park City Resort & Spa
The spa is 30,000 square feet that encompasses 14 treatment rooms, a waterfall/pool room, steam rooms, and a relaxation lounge that includes spa snacks, infused water, and a menu of food if those are not enough.
The spa menu is extensive—it even has a mini-massage option for kids that comes with a back scrub, coconut milk scalp hydration, and foot hydrating service. Adults have a wider range of many types of massage, skin care, and nail services.
For men who are still hesitant about spas (and come on guys, those days are long past!), Serenity Spa offers four massage and facial options to get them in the wellness groove.
In the same wing is The Yoga Studio where guests can book either group or private sessions that range from beginner to experienced power levels for everything from core flow to ski stretches. There is even sound healing yoga session with quartz crystal singing bowls.
Nor do you have to step far to get from the spa or yoga studio to the state-of-the-art fitness center. It features cardio equipment, free weights, and weight machines.
Accommodations
The only possible challenge to staying at Westgate Park City is that they make it so tempting to do so much. Yes, you want to explore Park City. Yes, you must go to the spa. Yes, you want to ski and swim and play pickleball or tennis. But why would anyone want to leave their rooms?
They offer several room types, and they all combine comfort and luxury phenomenally. Everything is cozy, the views are beautiful, and the bathrooms are far more than just a place to do your ‘business’ and brush your teeth.
They have 300 rooms, replete with fireplaces, kitchens, and sleeper sofas. The room types (from 350 to 2,150 feet) sleep anywhere from four to 16 guests, and include Premier Suites, Signature Suites, Luxury Suites, several different types of villas (ranging from one to four bedrooms) including Premier, Signature, and Luxury; as well as the Signature Four-Bedroom Loft. The differences are in color scheme, furnishings, and layout.
While I cannot speak to all the rooms having stayed in only one of them, the one I stayed in, a Premier One-Bedroom Villa, boasted a balcony with a view, a very well-stocked spacious kitchen, a luxury bathroom, and a quiet bedroom decorated in warm colors with a ceiling fan that was perfect for the summer weather. A living area had a sleeper sofa, fireplace, chairs, and coffee tables covered in reading materials.
The room was adorned in warm colors with luxury linens and electronic lighting control that made it very comfortable, but it was really the bathroom and kitchen that competed for top honors of what made the room special and memorable.
The kitchen had just about every appliance you could need for an extended stay except perhaps a stand mixer (and I suspect they’d deliver that if you asked for it!) A long island surrounded in chairs provided a place to eat while there was enough counter, refrigerator, and oven space to prepare a Thanksgiving feast.
Meanwhile, the bathroom was as spacious as the kitchen. The toilet was tucked away in a room with a door for privacy and the sinks spread across the room connecting the walk-in shower and the deep bathtub.
The walk-in shower had two showerheads, a rainfall one on top and another on the side. A built-in bench lets you luxuriate when you turn on the steam function and enjoy the spa amenity in the privacy of your room.
Throughout the bathroom were other touches of luxury including plenty of closet spaces, robes, large towels, an extra closet, signature soaps, and lotions. There are even paper flowers decorating the faucet on the tub.
Ever since the Olympics came to Park City in 2002, there has been no shortage of resorts filling the destination. Some have even dubbed Park City as Utah’s Spa Capital. Westgate Park City Resort and its Serenity Spa are surely the crown jewels among the choices in the city.
