The Blu Room Offers Innovative Relaxation Sessions for the Body and Mind
If you’re looking for a way to relax and detach from the stress of daily life, a Blu Room experience might be for you. The Blu Room is a patented technology that creates an atmosphere that insulates you from the outside world, providing the user with a mind/body/spirit consciousness-lifting that can augment your state of creative focus. It may also help facilitate healing experiences in some people, although it is not specifically a medical device.
Warrenton Wellness in Warrenton, Virginia is one of the numerous locations across the United States that offers Blu Room relaxation sessions. We spoke with them to find out everything you need to know about what a Blu Room experience is like, its benefits, and more.
When did the first Blu Room open?
The first Blu Room opened near Seattle, Washington in 2015.
What is a Blu Room session like and what are its benefits?
The Blu Room is a patented technology that creates an atmosphere to insulate users from the outside world. It provides the participant with a mind/body/spirit consciousness-lifting environment that can augment one’s state of personal well-being and creative focus.
Highly polished mirrored stainless steel lines the interior walls, floor, and ceiling. Illuminated throughout the session in soft blue LED light, the Blu Room provides a novel environment and a unique atmosphere enhanced by narrowband UVB light at the start of each session. The room also includes music, ventilation, and design elements based upon proprietary research by JZ Knight, the inventor. Since your brain isn’t busy responding to the stimulus of the everyday environment, your mind is free to float down to a state of deep relaxation known as the “theta state.”
The Blu Room is useful for anyone—including children and the elderly—who wants to step out of their daily environment. Users have reported a wide range of personal benefits, including:
Improved health and well-being
Deep relaxation
Relief from physical pain
Relief from mental stress & anxiety
Faster healing process
Increased creativity
Greater self-awareness
Significant source of vitamin D
What conditions does the Blu Room treat?
Stress
PTSD
High blood pressure
Anxiety
Pain management
Recovery from accidents or surgery
How long is a session?
20 minutes.
How often do you recommend doing it?
In the beginning, the physiological benefits of the Blu room sessions last 24 to 48 hours. Twice a week for several weeks provides a great boost for most people, but it varies according to the individual’s goals. There is a great deal of research on the benefits of a short nap during the day. A 20-minute nap provides significant benefit for improved alertness and performance without leaving you feeling groggy or interfering with nighttime sleep. A 20-minute Blu Room session will give you an extra boost over a regular nap. Shift your brainwaves from beta (the day-to-day reactive state) to the deeper—more creative—frequencies of alpha or theta.
What does it cost?
$60 with discounts for seniors, first responders, and military.
Are there any risk factors or potential side effects?
The Blu Room experience is designed to be safe. As in any experience in a new environment, it may take a while for the individual to adapt. For example, in learning to SCUBA dive or fly an airplane, the training starts slow and simple. We do advise people about the cautions related to UVB exposure which are minimized by the structure and duration of the Blu Room sessions. The most common side effects are a mild euphoria and a loss of the sense of time. We recommend individuals take a few moments after their session to enjoy the afterglow and the sense of detachment.
Is there anyone who isn’t a candidate?
With children ages 12 and under, parents may take the child in and have a session together. Call it cuddle time. The lower age limit depends on whether the child will tolerate the eye protection. We recommend limiting the initial UVB portion of each session to only three minutes since young children easily make the conscious shift beyond polarized thought.
Parents with children 13 to 17 may choose to allow their teenager to have Blu Room sessions alone. Although some children may lack the mental discipline for deep focus, the physical benefits of the Blu Room, particularly of reducing stress in the body, are useful for most everyone.
There is also no upper age limit. The Blu Room is easy to enter and exit, and the staff is happy to assist if you have mobility or balance issues.
