Ever since discovering Primally Pure at Love Beauty & Wellness Festival this past January, I’ve become hooked. Founded by Bethany McDaniel, the products are formulated using certified organic ingredients that are sourced with care—often from family-owned farms whenever possible. A few of my personal faves include the Blue Tansy Beauty Cream, Geranium Complexion Mist and Almond + Vanilla Body Butter.

This past February, The Spa at Primally Pure launched at the brand’s headquarters (aka “spaffice) in Murrieta, California. The chic and stylish space provides a relaxing sanctuary where guests can enjoy a series of holistic skin treatments, and they can also shop the entire collection of skin care products!

Recently I had the opportunity to chat with Courtney Joy O’Connor, a licensed holistic esthetician at The Spa at Primally Pure, who shared more information about the newly-opened spa, treatments and offerings, and more.

When did The Spa at Primally Pure open and what inspired it?

We celebrated the soft launch of our holistic spa at our headquarters in early February! The Spa at Primally Pure was a natural next step for our non-toxic skin care line and seemed to be the perfect name, as it’s an extension of our passions, products, and beliefs as a brand—and an all-encompassing Primally Pure experience.

What services are offered at the spa?

Our Holistic Skin Treatments are customized to your specific skin care concerns and incorporate only 100% natural, non-toxic ingredients, advanced massage techniques, and stress-relieving rituals to provide real results without compromising your health or wellness. We offer four different treatments to support individual skin needs:

  • Refresh is perfect as an introductory treatment or pick-me-up for your complexion if you’re tight on time.

  • Clarify visibly clarifies the complexion with a holistic approach to minimizing breakouts and brightening uneven skin tone.

  • Soothe deeply soothes sensitive, stressed, or damaged skin to create a calm, balanced complexion.

  • Plump powerfully rejuvenates and plumps the skin to promote a more youthful complexion by softening fine lines and signs of aging, as well as strengthening the integrity of the skin.

Holistic massage techniques are a strong focus in each of these facials such as Gua Sha, herbal poultice and manual lymphatic drainage. Facial Gua Sha works with the skin and the body’s systems to promote lymphatic drainage, calm the nervous system, clear blockages and buildup of toxins and excess fluid, and increase the flow of oxygen and vital nutrients to the skin.

Herbal Poultice powerfully helps to detoxify impurities, reduce puffiness, release muscular tension, smooth fine lines and wrinkles, naturally lift and contour, create a glowing complexion, and a balanced state of being. MLD is a highly specialized treatment that boosts immunity, minimizes puffiness, soothes sensitivities, improves the integrity of the skin, and has an incredibly calming effect on the nervous system to support deeper healing from within.

Are there any special amenities at the spa?

Before beginning a holistic skin treatment, we encourage our guests to enjoy a cup of organic herbal tea that is intentionally paired with each specific treatment. These tea blends are custom formulated by a local master herbalist to promote desired skin results from the inside out—all while deeply relaxing the mind and body with a soothing foot soak.

During the treatment, a unique experience we offer our guests is that our holistic esthetician custom blends masks based on specific skin care concerns with the same raw ingredients we used to handcraft our Primally Pure products. After an in-depth skin care consultation and skin analysis, she blends natural clays, herbs, and oils to support and improve individual skin needs.

After the facial is finished, we offer a skin superfood bliss ball with organic ingredients to nourish skin needs based on the treatment they received.  We’re passionate about simple ways to support skin health, and skin-loving beverages and beauty foods are a powerful way to do so.

Tell us more about your "spaffice" and the atmosphere.

The early days of our holistic spa all started with our “spaffice” (half-spa, half-office!) at our previous Primally Pure workshop, where we played around with products in a spa setting and only offered these treatments to our team. After about a year of dreaming, talking, testing, and designing, we dove wholeheartedly into this concept of creating a holistic spa at our brand new headquarters where we would finally be able to welcome our local community.

Our heart was to create a space, an environment, and an atmosphere for our guests to discover beauty in simplicity and be empowered to recreate it in their daily lives—and where spa experiences are no longer seen as a luxury, but as a way of life. From a natural, serene setting that promotes rest, healing and wholeness to simple, holistic tips our guests can implement at home, we wanted inspirational and practical ways to promote beauty and well-being for every guest that walks through our doors.

However, we want to focus on laying solid foundations for our skin care line and spa experiences, and can’t wait to build upon them in the coming years!
