We Chat All Things Beauty with Joyce Bonelli, Celebrity Makeup Artist and Founder of Joyce Bonelli Cosmétiques

Joyce Bonelli

Joyce Bonelli

Joyce Bonelli is a force to be reckoned with in the beauty industry. Not only is she a celebrity makeup artist (she’s worked with Demi Lovato and Nicki Minaj to name a few), but she is also an influencer, entrepreneur, and a mom.

I was able to take a few minutes out of Bonelli’s busy day to chat with her about makeup, her skincare line Joyce Bonelli Cosmétiques, self-care, and balancing it all.  She even gave me a few makeup tips. Here’s what she had to say:

How she got her start: Bonelli started out in makeup school learning special FX and animatronics. She had a passion for high glam and an obsession with skin. She started working on reality TV shows including “Girls Next Door” and “Keeping Up With the Kardashians.” She has been able to build her clientele to become one of the most sought-after celebrity makeup artists in the business.

What inspired her skincare line: Having used many brands and products over the years, Bonelli wanted to bridge the gap between the products she used and what she felt was missing. Having always emphasized skin and skin care, she wanted to create a line that is cruelty-free, affordable, and accessible. The debut collection features four products meant to work together to create what Bonelli describes as “makeup-ready skin.”

Le Masque Peel Off Glitter Face Mask ($25)

Key ingredients include citrus and hyaluronic acid; this is the first step in your ultimate skin prep.

For the Gods Face Serum ($25)

Described as her holy grail or a goddess glow, Bonelli doesn’t leave home without it.

The Facelift, Face Tightening Treatment, Face Serum ($25)

With good-for-your skin ingredients like argan oil and vitamin E, this serum helps moisturize and blurs imperfections.

Come Thru Flawless, Makeup Setting Spray with SPF 15 ($25)

This is my personal favorite of the range. With SPF 15 and hyaluronic acid, you can’t go wrong with this setting spray. It helps your makeup last while protecting your skin. Win-win!

Advice to someone who is just starting out: Never give up. Hustle and never say “no” to work. Always be consistent and keep moving forward. Treat everyone the same—you never know who you are going to meet or cross paths with. Focus. Get up early and have a good attitude.

Holy Grail Makeup: Some of Bonelli’s favorite makeup items include: L’Oreal Voluminous Mascara, L’Oreal True Match Foundation, Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation, and Nars Concealer. Bonelli is also a big fan of Patrick Ta blushes and Glossier’s Brow Flick.

Favorite women-owned brands/entrepreneurs: Bonelli is all about empowering and supporting women. Her current favorites include: Hope Smith, (@hopesmith) founder and CEO of MUTHA (@MUTHA) and KNC Beauty (@kncbeauty), especially their lip and eye masks.

What has brought Joyce joy in 2020 and into 2021: The past year has taught us all the importance of slowing down and appreciating the little things in life. Joyce has found joy in spending time with her kids, self-care and mediating. She emphasized the importance of working on yourself, and knowing who your people are and keeping them close.

It was such a pleasure to talk to Bonelli and learn more about her life, career, and brand.
