Week 21 of Weekly Wellness: Staying Current with NuFACE's Trinity Facial Toning Device

Testing out the NuFACE Trinity Facial Toning Device for the past six weeks.

NuFACE has been on my radar for years. Among many accolades, including Allure’s Best of Beauty Winner, NuFACE has generated a lot of beauty buzz and showcased some pretty impressive results.

As an esthetician, I have dabbled in microcurrent devices and experienced the impressive toning results the technology brings firsthand. Since NuFACE was founded by estheticians, I knew this at-home device would be one worth trying. As a spa and wellness industry insider, I’ve watched the growth of NuFACE from starting out as a product sold in spas to expanding to retailers like Dermstore and Sephora.

Week 20 of Weekly Wellness: Dry Brushing Benefits

I was thrilled to be able to score my own NuFACE Trinity Facial Toning Device and have put it to the ultimate test over the last six weeks, using it nearly every day as part of my #WeeklyWellness2021 Challenge. Could five minutes a day with this tool really be the answer to smoother, firmer and lifted skin?

What is Microcurrent?

Clinically tested, microcurrent is a low-level current that mimics the body’s natural ionic flow to address a wide range of skin concerns. Capable of facial stimulation, gentle waves travel through the skin down to facial muscles to increase ATP (bodies cellular energy) concentration, protein synthesis, and amino acid transport.

The technology has been around since the 1970s, when it was first approved by the FDA as a nerve simulator, aiding in pain, wound healing, and relief for those suffering from Bell’s Palsy. FDA cleared, today microcurrent muscle simulators can provide an anti-aging application within the beauty industry. Microcurrent re-energizes the natural current of the skin which slows with age, addressing signs of aging instantly and with continued use.

How can Microcurrent benefit the skin?

Like physical exercise works wonders for your body and mind, NuFACE acts as a workout for your skin, re-educating the muscles. In fact, microcurrent at various outputs has been proven to stimulate the recovery of damaged tissue, improve muscle tone in the face/neck, improve circulation, firm and tighten, aid in lymphatic drainage, enhance product penetration, and reduce lines and wrinkles. With toning and firming benefits, sagging skin is smoothed and facial features are defined as the skin becomes strengthened.

NuFACE Trinity Facial Toning Device

FDA-cleared for facial stimulation, the Trinity Facial Toning Device gently stimulates larger surface areas of the face to rejuvenate the skin.

NuFACE offers a handful of anti-aging devices and products, the hero and best-seller being the Trinity Facial Toning Device. It’s an FDA-cleared, ergonomic device designed to deliver gentle microcurrent to large surface areas of the face and neck to improve facial contour, tone, and combat lines and wrinkles.

NuFACE is safe to use every day and experts from the company recommend 5 to 60-minutes of use a day for five days a week for the first 60 days, followed with 2 to 3 weekly maintenance sessions. The Trinity is a great initial investment and offers the ability to add additional attachments depending on skincare goals. More on this next week!

My Experience

Learning the ins and outs of NuFACE with co-founder Tera Peterson.

My NuFACE experience started with a personal ‘house call’ zoom meeting with Tera Peterson, pro microcurrent esthetican and co-founder of NuFACE. She walked me though how to properly use the device, guiding me through my first facial and answering all of my questions along the way. The device was super easy to use and requires a gel primer to activate the microcurrent while hydrating the skin. If you feel any prickling from the device, simply apply more gel—it should be a mask-like layer, I learned.

During the call, Peterson had me work on only one side of my face, showing the serious visible results in my cheeks, jawline, and under eye area after just one use as I compared with the untreated side. I was hooked right then and there! Petersson is active on NuFACE’s Instagram account, giving loads of instruction and demos so you can confidently navigate microcurrent at home. It’s evident education is key to the brand, and they also have a helpful app you can download for tips, tricks, and a personalized treatment planner.

As mentioned, I diligently used the Trinity for weeks on end and have been thrilled with the results. With small children I often feel worn out, tired, and in need of a boost all-around. Botox and many other medi spa fixes aren’t an option for me at the moment since nursing is a contraindication.

NuFACE helped me feel alive again, more youthful, and lifted. I enjoyed the process each day of working the device along my face and neck as a 5-minute beauty ritual. The charge of the device is extremely long-lasting, making microcurrent an easy, at-home go-to!

Cost: $325
