Spa Profile: YHI Spa at Meliá Punta Cana Beach Resort
Located on Bávaro Beach in the Dominican Republic, Meliá Punta Cana Beach Resort is an adults-only, all-inclusive property that recently debuted wellness-driven spaces and programming for guests to connect with their physical, mental, spiritual, emotional, social and environmental-oriented personal development.
The 465-room resort is surrounded by the turquoise waters of the Caribbean Sea and perfectly integrates nature into every corner with ponds, exotic gardens, and numerous palm and coconut trees. It also has seven bars, six on-site restaurants, and four swimming pools.
Health-conscious travelers can stay in one of the resort’s The Level Wellness Suites by Stay Well™, which include one spa treatment per day, a personal wellness concierge, welcome and guided meditation, mood-enhancing aromatherapy, and more. The Level has its own private pool and offers the most discerning guests a chance to visit exclusive private areas while receiving the most personalized attention.
YHI Spa offers a place for guests to pamper the mind and body, featuring seven suites with private outdoor showers and three couples’ suites with private jacuzzis. The 2,200-square-foot spa also has a curated Atabeyra Water Emotion area, which is designed to promote relaxation, health and peace through the awakening of the body by water rituals including dynamic pool with pressure jets for legs and waste, saunas, steam rooms, and more.
We spoke with Arabelle Rosario, YHI Spa Director for Meliá Punta Cana Beach Resort, who provided spa insider tips, recommended treatments to try, and more.
Why You’ll Love It: Guests love the experience from the moment they enter YHI Spa. They are greeted with refreshments, whether it’s fruit-infused waters or special detox teas, and a deep explanation behind the rituals of each service.
Key Features: We feature seven suites with private outdoor showers and three couples suites with private jacuzzis. Our most spectacular amenity is our curated Atabeyra Water Emotion area. Intended for guests to enjoy before or after their treatment, guests are guided through a seven-step water-focused ritual that starts with the sauna and steam room to promote relaxation, and ends with specialty pressure jets for legs, back and waist. This is all designed to awaken the body through water.
Insider’s Tip: Take an hour before or after your treatment to utilize the Atabeyra Water Ritual. If you follow the ritual step-by-step, you will leave the spa feeling even more relaxed and rejuvenated.
Snacks Served: The spa offers three signature drinks that were created by a mixologist and naturopathic doctor. These include the Gin-Well, made with ginger, pineapple and cucumber; the Mom and Juana, made with cinnamon and clove; and the Moringa Mojito, which features rosemary and mint. The most popular is the Gin-Well, which helps to reduce inflammation and digestion. All drinks have a mineral water base.
Bonus: Guests begin their spa experience with warm neck towels that are infused with chamomile, clove, and other essential oils. They have access to a variety of refreshments, including mimosas and awakening Moringa and Soursop teas. Additionally, spa visitors can take advantage of the “Spa Happenings,” which include mini-massage workshops, fresh fruit bites, and special discounts throughout the week. Guests staying in one of our 24 The Level Wellness Suites by Stay Well are treated to spa treatments each day included in their stay.
Insider’s Favorite: Personally, my favorite treatment is the “Swell Remedy!” It’s a deep-pressure massage that uses a warm pad infused with a powerful healing potion. It’s a must-do for sore and aching muscles.
Unique Treatment: “Coffee and Sugar Please” is a new signature treatment that uses a sugar cane and organic coffee scrub from the east coast of the island. This scrubs help to remove dead cells and is followed by a hydration treatment made of local Moringa seed oil.
Splurge Treatment: Our most luxurious package is the “Well Unplugged” package, which includes a Pranayama breathing session followed by an authentic cacao therapy using the best local Dominican cacao, and finalized with a relaxing healing massage that uses warm gloves full of natural herbs.
Featured Products: All of our spa uses Moringaia Certified Organic and Sothys. Moringaia is a locally-sourced skincare company. This special company uses the local Moringaia tree and seeds to create its products. This helps sustain the local economy, providing jobs to the Dominican people. Additionally, with profits from their sales, the company leads reforestation efforts between the Haiti and Dominican Republic border.
