We interviewed Toby Maguire, Wellness Manager; and Esmerelda Van Der Westhuizen, Spa Manager at Aman Spa at Amanyara, to learn more about Amanyara’s Wellness Immersions, their unique offerings and benefits, how the experiences are individually tailored for guests, and more.
What inspired the creation of Amanyara’s Wellness Immersions?
In today's fast-paced world and ever-changing environment we recognized the need to provide our guests with a tranquil, nurturing, and holistic environment in which they can cocoon themselves, step away from their everyday lives, and allow their minds to quiet and heal from the outside in. The Immersions gently steer them onto a new path—whether they seek to shift unwanted weight, renew focus and reduce stress, or kickstart a health plan for the future. The carefully calibrated programs, which last between three to seven days, ensure guests achieve palpable results and a deep sense of inner peace and overall well-being, for a healthier life.
The goal at Amanyara with the Wellness Immersions is to present the idyllic opportunity for individuals to develop healthy and long-lasting lifestyles amidst our lush sanctuary.
What are the different Wellness Immersions that are offered and their benefits?
Amanyara’s Wellness Immersions follow three pathways based on individual needs: Mindfulness & Stress Management, Weight Management & Transformation, and Detox & Cleansing. Programs are fully customized to the traveler's wellness goals and length of stay (minimum three nights), and include private movement and specialist therapy sessions, spa treatments, and nutritional support with personally curated menus.
For example, the Mindfulness & Stress Management pathway combines therapies and practices that shift focus inward to heighten self-awareness, imbue a deep sense of peace and relaxation, and develop the skills for managing a stressful lifestyle. Meditation, Qigong, yoga and breath-work complement purification and cleansing rituals. Specialist sessions work deeply to transform the body and mind and may include Auricular Acupuncture, traditional bodywork, and/or mindfulness. Mental and physical tension is released through daily spa treatments including aquatic bodywork and deep relaxation massage. Nutritional programs are designed to relieve physiological systems of stress while boosting immunity and clarity. A final consultation provides guidance for the future therapies and practices that calm external stimuli, this Immersion aims to shift focus inward to heighten self-awareness.
The Weight Management & Transformation pathway is designed to help control and manage weight in a healthy and holistic manner. It demystifies weight management by focusing on boosting metabolism, promoting digestion, and improving the movement of fluid in the body in order to obtain and sustain an optimum weight and state of health. Therapies include slimming body wraps and full-body massage, lymphatic drainage, and traditional abdominal massage, while private movement sessions are overseen by a personal trainer and complemented by optional group movement classes. A final consultation provides guidance for the future.
For those seeking to purify the body, refresh the mind, and promote a long and healthy life, the Detox & Cleansing pathway eases the way by naturally stimulating the detoxification pathways of the body. It aims to improve the digestive, lymphatic and elimination systems with a complete detox diet and complementary therapies to brighten the eyes, clear the skin, improve organ function and promote cellular rejuvenation. Treatments include lymphatic drainage massage and detoxing body wraps, while specialist therapies and private movement sessions focus on clearing the body of toxic accumulations caused by hectic modern lifestyles. A final consultation provides guidance for the future.
Customized to incorporate fitness, nutrition, bodywork and mindfulness practices, these holistic wellness programs are designed to promote profound change. Each ensures palpable results, whether you wish to dispel stress and renew focus, shift unwanted weight or promote overall well-being for a longer, healthier life. How does Amanyara individually tailor the experience for each client?
Each of Amanyara’s three Immersion pathways begins with an initial transformation program orientation and an in-depth consultation. Based on thorough assessments and the understanding that your goals may well be multiple, Amanyara's tight-knit team aims to support you with a bespoke program of exercise, spa treatments, healing therapies and nutritious meals all focused on bringing you back to balance. So while you may opt, for example, for a weight-management focus, decreasing stress levels might also be a priority, and this will be reflected in every facet of your program.
Each day of the Immersion is utterly personalized and includes specialist therapy and private movement sessions, a spa treatment in the serene Aman Spa, optional guided meditation and group movement sessions, and every meal. The Wellness Managers track your progress and regularly check in on how you are feeling in order to fine-tune your Immersion. A final consultation marks the end of your program, the team aims to send you home empowered and educated, with all the tools to ensure that your journey towards optimum health continues.
How long is a Wellness Immersion experience?
Amanyara's Wellness Immersions are offered for a minimum of three nights. Amanyara also offers a one-day Optimum Wellness Journey for guests whose itinerary cannot accommodate a multi-day immersion commitment but want to incorporate a wellness aspect to their stay. This condensed program includes a spa treatment, a specialist session, and a fitness session combined with a healthy lunch.

Starting in 2022, Amanyara has welcomed a roster of practitioners who bring their expertise in various disciplines to enhance the resort’s sought-after Wellness Immersions. Practitioners include experts in Eastern philosophies and Chinese medicine to teachers of health coaching and personal training as well as meditation and spiritual teaching.
In April, Amanyara welcomed Don Saladino, fitness coach to celebrities and athletes. In August, guests can learn from Erika Bloom, founder of Erika Bloom Pilates, who is particularly passionate about working with women throughout all stages of life and is a trained doula and pre and postnatal Pilates and yoga specialist. In October, Kelsey Patel will lead wellness and reiki clinics to enhance guest wellness. Specializing in EFT (emotional freedom technique) and various other healing and empowerment modalities to heal burnout, Kelsey is highly sought-after for her simple, yet profound support in helping people help heal burnout, pain, anxiety and stress.
Beyond Wellness Immersions, Amanyara diversifies its wellness offerings with Amanyara Legends. In 2021, Amanyara launched the Amanyara Legends program featuring a series of clinics throughout the year with icons in the world of sports. Past clinics have been led by legends such as tennis great Maria Sharapova, surf champion Candice Appleby, five-time NBA All-Star Kevin Love, doubles champions Mike and Bob Bryan, Dallas Cowboys defensive end Demarcus Lawrence and more.
From September 12 to 14, tennis professionals Paula Badosa (ranked 4 going into Wimbledon) and Leylah Fernandez (with a career high of 14 in the world) will lead tennis clinics and host an intimate cocktail reception with participating guests. In November, Amanyara Legends will continue with a series of soccer clinics led by Kieran Gibbs and Blaise Matuidi. English professional soccer player Kieran Gibbs began his career at Arsenal, making his professional debut in 2007.
