Beauty Boss: Alisha Gallagher, Co-Founder of MOB Beauty

Alisha Gallagher.

Our latest Beauty Boss is Alisha Gallagher, Co-Founder of MOB Beauty—a company that is on a mission to build beauty for a better future. They offer a wide variety of cosmetics products and spend just as much time on their sustainability efforts and packaging design as they do on their products, and they are focused on reducing waste and the use of single-plastics in the beauty industry.

Sustainable Spotlight: Renpure Prioritizes Clean and Affordable Environmentally-Friendly Beauty

MOB Beauty designed their Earth-First packaging system to be endlessly reusable and refillable, and their Compacts and Palettes are infinitely customizable to allow consumers to make purposeful choices by selecting individual products in the exact shades that they will use. All of the brand’s packaging is made from PET and PP resin, which are the easiest to recycle with at least 50% post-consumer recycled content. Currently, they are on a mission to achieve 100% PCR for all of their packaging.

Behind the Brand: BRIXY Beauty Bars Are Mindfully Made and Better for the Planet

MOB has also joined forces with Credo and Hudson’s Bay Company to form Pact, a beauty industry collective that is on a mission to address the massive environmental impact of cosmetics and skincare packaging by providing a sustainable solution for hard-to-recycle packaging.

We chatted with Gallagher who shared the inspiration behind the brand, secrets for success, beauty tips, and much more.

When was MOB Beauty founded and what does the name mean?

We officially launched the brand on 1/21/21, and our name is about celebrating community and creating a participatory environment to come together with the intention of learning and doing beauty better—the MOB!

What inspired the creation of the brand?

Simply put, we didn’t see consciously formulated product that met our standards nor packaging that met our sustainability standards, so we took on the challenge of making both!   We want to push boundaries and show how good consciously formulated product can be while also helping to re-think and re-shape packaging in our industry.

We opened our own lab where we create formulas well beyond the industry standard of “clean”—all of our formulas are silicone-free, plastic-free, vegan and more, but nothing leaves our lab until it meets the most rigorous standards of pro-artists.  As for packaging, we couldn’t find packaging that met our sustainability standards, so we created our own up to an including a recently launched biodegradable packaging suite!

MOB Beauty is focused on reducing waste and the use of single-plastics in the beauty industry.

Does MOB Beauty have a hero product?

Our Cream Clay franchise is beloved by artists and our community. We offer it in a blush, eyeshadow, and bronzer.  What’s unique is how we re-thought the cream format, infusing it with ingredients that don’t melt off the skin. It’s the best of both worlds—the natural and mistake proof things you love about cream, but with a high-performance kick that provides longevity and rich color!

What are your favorite products from your brand?

I love all things Cream Clay, our Blurring Ceramide Cream Foundation is truly next level foundation technology that is basically a skincare balm with pigment, and launching next week—our Blurring Loose Setting Powder will take the number one spot for me. It’s a loose powder for everyone, but especially those who think they can’t wear powders because they are drying. We loaded our loose powder with skincare, which is super unique and allows you to set your makeup with the most supple, fresh finish!

Where are your products sold?

You can find us on our website, at Credo, Detox Market, and Beautylish!

Future plans for the brand?

Community! Once the pandemic restrictions were lifted and we were able to be together (with the MOB!), we began hosting our community to come to the labs and create with us. We have been launching products created with them, and we will continue to do so. Otherwise, never-ending beauty in progress at the MOB labs including more plastic-free packaging solutions to follow later this year!

MOB designed their Earth-First packaging system to be endlessly reusable and refillable, and their Compacts and Palettes are infinitely customizable to allow consumers to make purposeful choices.

Who inspires you?

At MOB, our community. Their passion, support, and ideas keep me moving forward! Generally, music and anyone who writes great songs and other entrepreneurs who put it all out there every day to bring their visions to life!

Secret to success?

Trusting your gut, taking action, and pushing past fear.  Nothing happens until you put one foot in front of the other, and sometimes those can be very scary steps. My motto is just listen to your instincts and go for it and leave the what ifs alone!

Beauty secrets?

Sleep, water, and a plant-based diet! Of course I have a skincare routine that involves retinol and all the things, but I swear by a vegetarian lifestyle and fueling from the inside out!

Wellness tips?

I’ve adopted two things in the past year that have been game changing: a morning routine and cold therapy, which is part of my morning routine!  Every morning I take a cold shower or plunge—at least two minute—to start the day. I am instantly firing on all cylinders. This is followed by green tea, lots of water, getting outside for at least 10 minutes of natural light, and setting an intention for the day.

Best advice?

Trust your intuition. I wish I had figured out this simple magic way before I did!

Favorite way to relax?

Either quiet in nature or together with music, wine, good food, and good friends!
