We chatted with Dr. Kaplan, who discusses the inspiration behind his line, his unique approach to beauty, signature procedures and treatments, and more.
Dr. Kaplan’s clinic is located in Beverly Hills, where he offers a wide range of anti-aging services, cosmetic procedures, and medical dermatology.
When did you open your clinic and when did you launch your skincare line?
I opened my clinic in 1990 and started my line in 2011.
What inspired the idea to start a line?
My patients were confused about the overwhelming number of products in the market. I wanted to create a brand that prioritized simplicity and quality. I took the best ingredients, put as many key ingredients into each product, making each product simple but incredibly effective to use. I got tons of feedback from my patients who used it, and kept refining and improving the product.
What services do you offer at your clinic?
I offer both medical and cosmetic dermatology. Cosmetically, I am trained and I teach techniques in all the fillers, botulinum toxins, lasers, varicose and leg veins, and thread lifts. Medically, I treat skin diseases that affect patients of all ages. Surgically, I diagnose ant treat skin cancers. I offer the Mohs technique to excise Basal Cell and Squamous Cell Carcinomas.
Do you have a specialty?
I look at improving the entire face as an entity. Aging is a multifaceted process and needs to be treated that way. Treating skin aging is not about treating just one problem. Everything is interrelated.

Do you offer a signature treatment?
I am known for my "Diamond Contour Method (TM)” in analyzing and helping treat aging skin. When we are young, our face is narrow at the bottom and wider at the top. I call this the "Diamond of Youth." As we age, we lose subcutaneous fat in our cheeks and temples, and also experience bone thinning in our cheeks, jaws, and temples. This causes our skin to deflate and sag, changing that diamond of youth into what I call the "Pyramid of Aging.
But my "Diamond Contour Method” also emphasizes that beautiful skin reflects light like a diamond. I have defined the four facets of beautiful skin to be radiance, texture, plumpness, and rejuvenation. Rather than focus on one isolated problem when it comes to skin aging, I treat the underlying structures that support and volumize the skin and also plump, hydrate, and rejuvenate as the skin itself. This brings back the diamond of youth while helping our skin reflect light like it did when we were younger.
Do you carry other product lines in your clinic?
I carry some other individual products as well. But still my patients almost always choose KAPLAN MD as their skincare brand because they know I am completely involved in the science and technology of KAPLAN MD. I put as many ingredients and benefits in each product. This gives you superior results, requiring fewer steps.
Future plans for your line and clinic?
I want to continue to educate patients and consumers about the science and technology of skin care.

Who inspires you?
