Luxury Stays and Getaways: Red Rock Magic & High-Tech Serenity at Black Desert Resort in Ivins, Utah

Red rock views and poolside relaxation at Black Desert Resort in Ivins, Utah.

If your dream escape involves a sun-drenched desert oasis, red rock vistas, a world-class golf course, and cutting-edge spa therapies, I’ve found your paradise: Black Desert Resort in Ivins, Utah (just minutes outside St. George).

My family and I recently checked in for a short getaway to soak up every drop of Southern Utah sun. From lingering poolside with a cold drink to indulging in high-tech bio-hacking at the spa, this breathtaking property easily lands toward the top of my luxury stays list.

We were offered a refreshing lemonade (cactus style!) upon check-in.

Upon arrival, we were welcomed with a chilled prickly pear lemonade — a vibrant, refreshing sip after the drive, perfectly timed as the golden afternoon sun began to illuminate the surrounding vermilion cliffs.

We checked into our light-flooded two-bedroom suite, complete with two spacious baths, indulgent L'Occitane bath amenities, and a massive private balcony overlooking emerald greens framed by ancient black basalt lava rock.

I picked up this custom candle, created for Black Desert with chic scents of the desert.

Why You'll Love It

  • Cinematic desert landscape: Nestled across 600 acres where dramatic black lava flows meet fiery red sandstone cliffs in Greater Zion.

  • Championship-caliber golf: Anchored by a stunning Tom Weiskopf 18-hole championship course designed to host both PGA TOUR and LPGA Tour events.

  • Future-forward wellness: Home to Plume Spa & Wellness — a 15,000-square-foot sanctuary fusing advanced longevity tech with restorative hands-on body work.

  • Versatile luxury: Ideal for family escapes, girls' wellness weekends, corporate events or romantic retreats with generous suite layouts and an elevated pool circuit.

Accommodations

Black Desert Resort effortlessly balances high-design elegance with the warmth of residential living. Accommodation choices range from sleek deluxe rooms to sprawling multi-bedroom luxury suites.

Our two-bedroom suite felt like our own private residence tucked into the canyon landscape. Outfitted with crisp linens, organic textures, and roomy showers stocked with L'Occitane products, the space offered plenty of room for our family to spread out.

The absolute star of the suite, however, was the expansive balcony — the perfect perch for morning meals as the red rocks caught the first light of day.

Basalt is Black Desert Resort’s flagship steakhouse featuring sweeping red rock views.

Dining

With seven distinct dining venues on property, the culinary scene at Black Desert Resort covers everything from casual poolside bites to upscale steakhouse dinners. The overall food culture leans into fresh, Southwestern-inspired flavors with a relaxed resort feel, making it easy to eat well without leaving the grounds.

For an elevated evening, Basalt is the resort’s flagship fine-dining steakhouse, offering wood-fired prime steaks and regional dishes alongside floor-to-ceiling canyon views. On the more casual side, the 20th Hole is a massive sports lounge with golf simulators and pub fare, where we grabbed burgers while watching players wrap up their rounds on the 18th green.

Our absolute favorite meal of the trip, though, was at the open-air Oasis Poolside Cafe. We ordered the fresh fish tacos alongside chips and house-made salsa while the kids splashed around — they were an instant hit with everyone and quickly became the taste we kept craving for days to come.

Spa & Wellness

After lunch on our second day, I blew a kiss goodbye to the family as they splashed into the resort pool and slipped away to Plume Spa & Wellness.

Plume is an absolute triumph in modern spa design — a moody, earth-toned 15,000-square-foot haven dedicated to longevity and deep restoration.

My afternoon was a decadent sequence of high-tech bio-hacking and expert touch: weightless warmth in a Dry Float session, a crisp dry cold cryo boost, a brain-calming CurvaLounger session under a weighted blanket, and a sublime 60-minute Therapeutic Recovery Massage that melted away every lingering knot.

Insider Tips

  • Take home the signature scent: Pop into the boutique and pick up Black Desert’s custom resort candle—it brings the chic, grounding scents of the Southern Utah desert right into your home.

  • Upgrade your spa experience: Reserve a Longevity Lounge pass alongside your treatment to experience the hyperbaric oxygen chamber and bio-hacking floats.

  • Conquer the 19th hole: Even if you aren't playing a full 18 holes on the Tom Weiskopf signature course, don't miss the resort's 36-hole putting course — a casual, high-energy spot to roll a few putt attempts while sipping craft cocktails at sunset.

  • Elevate your dinner at Basalt: Book an evening table at Basalt, the resort’s premier steakhouse, and request outdoor patio seating for front-row views of the lava fields glowing at dusk alongside their signature wood-fired dishes.

  • Sunset at the pool: Be sure to catch the sunset from the outdoor heated pool or hot tub when the red rocks glow like hot coals against the dusk sky.

  • Explore the trails: Take advantage of the 6 miles of scenic hiking trails weaving directly through the resort's preserved lava fields for an immersive look at the landscape.

Our family getaway delivered the perfect balance of splash-filled pool days and blissed-out spa recovery, but leaving without playing a round left me already planning our return — next time, I’m definitely packing my golf clubs. Plus, with the resort planning to add a massive state-of-the-art water park in 2027, the kids are already counting down the days until we come back!
