Sheraton Waikiki Displays Hawaiian-Inspired Santa Claus Sand Sculptures
Looks like Santa Claus has the aloha spirit! Two sand sculptures that pay tribute to the legendary figure are currently on display at Sheraton Waikiki and portray Santa in an aloha shirt placing gifts around a Christmas tree, in addition to riding his sleigh for his final stop in the islands. The sculptures were created by Sandsational Sand Sculpting, a company based in Melbourne, Florida, that has created visually stunning masterpieces in the hotel’s lobby since 2006. Sheraton Waikiki remains the only hotel in Hawaii to feature sand sculptures of any kind.
This year, Jill Harris and Thomas Koet of Sandsational spent more than 250 hours (nearly three weeks), to complete the sculptures. The first sculpture, depicting Santa in his aloha shirt, was completed on November 10 using eight tons of sand. The second sculpture of Santa loading his sleigh is made of 25 tons of sand.
The sculptures will remain at the hotel through early 2019. For more information, visit Sheraton Waikiki’s website and follow them on Instagram: @sheratonwaikiki
