Hawaii Spa Guide: The Best Spas in Oahu
Nanea Spa at Timbers Kauai at Hokuala is the island’s first boutique organic spa and offers traditional Hawaiian treatments where each service is based on a traditional healing canoe crop that was brought to Hawaii by Pacific settlers hundreds of years ago. The spa sources its ingredients from the property’s on-site organic farm and orchard cultivated in the volcanic soil of Kauai. The ingredients are combined with sacred island rituals to restore and support balance with guests through Nanea Spa’s signature customized wellness journeys.
We interviewed Kristine Long, Spa Manager at The Nanea Spa at Timbers Kauai at Hokuala, to learn more about treatments to try, insider tips, and more.
Why You’ll Love It: Guests seek out the Nanea Spa for our dedication to tradition and commitment to using only the best products. Our spa facilitates the transition into “lokahi”—the harmony of body and spirit—through traditional Hawaiian treatments using only the best, all-organic line up of resources.
As the first organic spa on Kaua‘i, we use fresh botanicals from the on-site Farm at Hōkūala in tandem with hand selected organic products. The 16.5-acre organic farm provides us with the botanicals we need to provide our guests with beloved essential oil aromatherapy that greets them at the door. We incorporate honey from the farm’s apiary into scrubs and brew botanical tea fresh for each guest.
While many spas advertise fresh and natural ingredients, only a few spas around the world can say they truly source their ingredients cultivated in the volcanic soil of Kauai from a sprawling organic farm located in their backyard. Our spa is the ultimate example of a farm-to-spa where each spa service incorporates botanicals and native plants. These precious ingredients are combined with sacred island rituals to restore and support guests through their customized wellness journeys.
Key Features: When guests walk through the door, they are welcomed into an oasis of wellness. Along with their scheduled treatment, they have access to an infrared meditation room, fully equipped gym, locker room, and spa showers with Malie organic products. Our guests often note the steam aromatherapy, which can be added to a variety of treatments. We also carry our product lines for guests to purchase to continue their wellness journey after they leave our spa.
Snacks Served: Our spa is focused on hydration and nourishment offering double-filtered alkaline water, botanical tea and fresh fruit from The Farm at Hokuala. If guests desire a sweet snack, we also offer artisan chocolate made from Hawaii-grown cacao.
Insider’s Tip: We encourage guests to book treatments with as much notice as possible as the demand for our intimate spa and its services is high. We will go above and beyond for our guests, but often cannot accommodate last-minute appointments.
Bonus: To help shepherd guests into the feeling of relaxation, we encourage them to arrive 10 to 20 minutes ahead of their scheduled treatment so they may enjoy a complimentary Hawaiian salt and flower foot soak.
Splurge Treatment: If you are looking to maximize your wellness and splurge on your health, the Ultimate Body Treatment is perfect. Our spa's hand-picked organic product line emulates the essence of summer skin in our invigorating full-body "facial" and body wrap treatment. Our locally sourced honey scrub, made from our on-site apiary, polishes away dry and dull skin, while the detoxifying volcanic ash and clay wrap lulls you into a state of relaxation. We use a blend of essential oils, made from The Farm at Hokuala, to ease tension and stress in your scalp, neck, shoulders, and feet followed by a hydrating blend of body butter and hyaluronic serum to lock in the glow. This treatment is $385 for a 100-minute service.
Unique Treatment: The most unique treatment we offer is the Luminous Eminence Face & Back Treatment because of the opportunity to customize the experience to fit the guest’s needs to get them feeling confident in their own skin, literally. There are a variety of skin conditions we treat including dark spots, skin redness and visible signs of aging. The 100-minute treatment is $325 plus enhancements
Insider’s Favorite: My favorite treatment is the CBDeep ‘Lomi Lomi’ massage because it emphasizes Hawaiian culture and wellness. The treatment features a combination of CBD Massage Oil and Butter, Pohaku (hot stones), and CBD Pain Relief Cream. The ‘Lomi Lomi’ practice is part of traditional Hawaiian healing that uses a combination of massage and warm nut oils to bring balance, restore energy, and soothe the body. At Nanea, we offer complimentary upgrades of hot stones or hand and foot treatment to ensure guests have a balanced and relaxing treatment. The 100-minute treatment is $385 plus enhancements.
Featured Products: We feature fresh botanicals in our treatments from the on-site Farm at Hōkūala in addition to meticulously hand selected organic products. Product lines include:
