Two months ago, I decided to drastically change my diet in response to the whole quarantine situation.

When we first went into lockdown back in March, I resorted to frozen pizzas and pasta because those foods were easier to find at the grocery store. With all the panic buying that occurred during the first two months of the pandemic, fresh meat and produce were hard to come by—but frozen foods and microwaveable meals were in abundant supply, so it seemed like the right thing to do at the time.

But after eating like that week after week, my body and mind paid the price. I felt sluggish, I was always tired, and no matter how much I ate, I always felt unsatisfied at the end of each meal, like I was missing something. Processed and frozen foods are loaded with salt, saturated fat, sugar, and calories, but lack vitamins and minerals, which the body needs in order to perform a variety of functions, including converting food into energy, healing wounds, repairing cellular damage, and strengthening the immune system.

Filling up on empty calories isn’t good for the waistline and it has no nutritional benefits. Eating well is fundamental to good health and well-being, and if I wasn’t putting the right foods into my body, then I certainly wasn’t going to feel my best. Together, my husband and I made a pact to completely clean up our diets—and this is where Mighty Macros comes in.

MACROS is the leading health meal delivery brand in Australia, and Mighty Macros is their newly-launched delivery service in the United States. There are a variety of different meal plan services out there, but what especially appealed to me about Mighty Macros is that each meal is designed by dietitians and flavored by chefs, who use in-season and locally sourced ingredients to create innovative dishes that are tasty and nutritious. Talk about a win-win!

Depending on your health and fitness goals, Mighty Macros offers different types of meal options—all of which are low in sodium, low-calorie, dairy-free, high protein, and free of artificial colors and flavors, refined sugar, additives, and preservatives. They also offer plant-based, gluten-free, low-carb, and paleo options as well to ensure that no customers feel excluded due to dietary restrictions.

After picking the plan that best aligns with your goals, you get to choose how many meals you want per week. The menus are also regularly updated so that it never gets boring. Currently, Mighty Macros offers four different menu plans:

  • Weight Loss - Low carb meals under 350 calories to support weight loss

  • Sculpt - High protein and low carb meals for shredding and toning

  • Perform - Protein-packed meals boosted with carbs for stamina and recovery

  • Gain - Calorie, carb, and protein-loaded meals to fuel muscle growth

When my package from Mighty Macros arrived, it contained seven carefully packaged meals that were kept cool in insulated refrigerated boxes with ice packs. This keeps your food cold for up to eight hours after the time of delivery, so you don’t have to worry about it going bad or overheating in case you’re not home when it’s delivered. The Mighty Macro meals are pre-cooked, so all I had to do was heat them up when I was ready to eat. The packaging is microwave-safe, but you also have the option of heating them up on the stove or in the oven as well.

For the following week, I ate a Mighty Macro meal for lunch every day. Lunch tends to be the meal that I neglect the most, mainly because it’s usually hard to tear myself away from the computer mid-work day. However, knowing that I had a tasty meal waiting for me in the fridge made it that much easier to take a break and eat lunch.

Depending on your dietary plan, Mighty Macros offers a wide variety of dishes to choose from such as Vietnamese Chicken Noodle Salad, Sesame Beef, Hawaiian Chicken, and more. One of my favorites was the Sri Lankan Chicken, which included chicken curry on a bed of kale and cauliflower rice. It was full of flavor, and featured a mixture of seasonings and spices that kept my palate entertained. By the week’s end, I was sad when I opened my very last meal—which got me thinking about how many meals and what type of meal plan I would want in my next order from Mighty Macros.

Every meal includes the calorie information, as well as the amount of protein, carbs, and fat to help you monitor and track what you eat. The other great part about Mighty Macros is that it takes all the guesswork and time out of shopping for and preparing healthy meals—something many of us want to do but aren’t always able to commit to. What’s more, you can skip, pause, or cancel at any time for added convenience.

Whether you’re super busy or you just prefer the idea of someone else making your food, Mighty Macros might be perfect for you. Now if only they would add a dessert plan!
