We Visited Haus Labs and Got Glammed up for the Holidays by Lady Gaga's Makeup Artist Sarah Tanno
As beauty writers and content creators, sometimes we get to do really cool things. I’m talking once-in-a-lifetime opportunities. I recently had the chance to meet Sarah Tanno at the Haus Labs headquarters and studio in collaboration with Klarna in Los Angeles. Not only did I get to meet her, but she did my makeup. What?! Talk about an amazing experience.

We bonded over our love of makeup, being valley girls, and the fact that her husband is part Japanese (like me!). Not only was she kind and down-to-earth, she also reignited a fire in me that I didn’t even realize was starting to dim. The burning desire to create, feel passionate about life, and have a positive influence on others through the power of makeup.
I’m not an influencer. I’m just a lawyer who really really loves makeup. I love applying makeup on myself and on anyone who will let me. I love how makeup makes me look on the outside, but also how it makes me feel on the inside.
In a lot of ways, I’ve always felt like two different people being pulled in different directions. For the past decade, I’ve been juggling between the two, sometimes not so gracefully. When chatting with Sarah, we talked about fitting in and feeling like you must be confined to one box or another. Oh, you’re a lawyer? You can’t wear the bright lipstick. You’re a makeup artist? You couldn’t have gone to law school.
Here’s the thing: There’s no one size fits all approach to makeup, or in life. We aren’t made to be or do just one thing. You can be creative, smart, and a beautiful mess, all at the same time. I believe that’s at the core of Haus Labs and why Lady Gaga created such a diverse range of products. Makeup can be and is a form of expression of who you are but also who you want to be.
Sarah reminded me that if someone ever makes you feel like you don’t fit the mold, or in the right box - build your own. I walked out of the studio that day not only loving what I saw in the mirror, but with a renewed sense of who I am on the inside.
Thank you, Sarah. It was a pleasure and an honor to meet you. Thank you for reminding me of who I am, why I’m here and why I love makeup. Also, a special thank you to Phuong Tram, Rolando Kole, and the entire Haus Labs team for making me feel so special. It really was a dream come true.
