Week 28 of Weekly Wellness: Hair Repair with Virtue
Each summer my hair takes a beating. Swimming pools, Utah’s dry heat and the ever present ponytail holder leave it feeling dull, brittle and practically screaming for help. This week for my #WeeklyWellness2021 challenge, I dove deep into hair self-care, thanks to Virtue’s Scalp Treatment Kit.
Week 27 of Weekly Wellness: Friends Who Mask Together Stay Together
The treatment contains a trio of products: Exfoliating Scalp Treatment, Topical Scalp Supplement, and a bonus scalp massage tool—all designed to rebalance, condition, and detoxify locks. Sign me up!
The Science
After the first use, I noticed a difference in my hair. After a couple weeks, I was hooked. I had to know what the secret sauce was, the key ingredient beautifying my now healthy-feeling hair, and have been geeking out about Alpha Keratin 60ku® ever since.
Six years ago, a team of bio-scientists discovered a new method for collecting Keratin in its pure form while working to heal burn wounds and regrow tissue. It turned out this protein also works wonders on hair too, not surprising since it makes up 90% of our hair, skin, and nails.
Extracted from ethically-sourced human hair, Keratin 60ku™works so well because our body recognizes and treats it as its own. Hair can actually repair as the protein binds to areas of damage, filling them in. The result? Strong, healthy, and shiny strands. Alpha Keratin 60ku® gives a rich and luxurious feel to the brand’s product formulas while self-regulating bonds where needed, leaving hair feeling refreshed and weightless.
And did I mention Virtue is free of sulfates, parabens, phthalates, synthetic colors and dyes, gluten-free, and vegan?
Exfoliating Scalp Treatment
I never really thought to exfoliate my head before using this treatment, but boy, I didn’t know what I was missing out on! A whipped crème featuring rice beads and fruit enzymes gives the scalp everything it’s been craving. Impurities and build-up get washed away for a cleansing and relaxing experience, and add the scalp massage tool for enhanced sensation. Use as a last step after shampooing by applying to scalp and hair, massaging for 2-3 minutes before double rinsing, 2-3 times a week in place of a conditioner or mask. The scent is an intoxicating blend of lavender, chamomile, white tea, florals, and a touch of sandalwood.
I quickly fell in love with this treatment and noticed immediate and cumulative results. I have been using it on my 3-year old too; it’s worked wonders for removing glitter hairspray, sand, and all the other “goodies” that accumulate in toddler’s hair. I really I can’t get over the smell, it’s a new favorite!
Topical Scalp Supplement
I enjoyed using this smoothing serum on nights I had dry hair, per the bottle’s instructions. Alpha Keratin 60ku® works with hyaluronic acid, peptides, and prebiotic boosters to strengthen and balance hair nightly. The brand recommends 5-7 drops applied on the scalp and worked through the ends for optimal results. The quick-drying serum absorbs within a couple of minute and won’t leave any residue on sheets or your pillowcase. I noticed hair felt stronger and looked shinier the next day with hints of the same heavenly scent as the exfoliating scalp treatment.
